Gaza: UN says Gazans heading back north despite Israeli warnings – BBC News

Published

on

Some people who fled northern Gaza after Israeli forces told them to leave are now heading back, says the head of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees.

Thomas White from the UNRWA tells the Today programme on BBC Radio 4: “It’s very dangerous in the north but people are losing their lives in the south as well.”

White said 8,000 people were taking shelter in his organisation’s warehouse complex and surviving on just one litre of water a day and small amounts of bread.

Palestinian officials in the Hamas-run health ministry said 436 people have been killed in Gaza since yesterday morning – taking the total to more than 5,000 since 7 October, they said.

The question is: Why do we as humans always avoid addressing the causes but instead favor the one in power over the other? Why are international laws not applied? Why does it only apply to certain countries and people? Isn't that called double standards and hypocrisy?

‏Israel witnessed a number of explosions, and they were few. As for Palestine, since 1949, it has been suffering from wars and bombings. Poor Palestine wanted peace and to welcome them into its country, but they are the evil ones who want to take their homeland after they tortured and killed them. There are children, women, fathers and sons. Mothers who want to live. Israel is bad and wants to kill them and seize their city, Palestine. You may want to live in peace and want to live happily. You don't know her story. Research and learn. Inquire to know the story of Palestine and their bitter torment. Palestine is free forever🇵🇸✊🏻✊🏼✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿💗.

But now, the D.C. establishment’s premier newspaper is openly admitting that the CIA is actively running covert ops inside Russia, which has included the killing of journalist and geopolitical commentator Darya Dugina, the daughter of Alexaner Dugin. Another “conspiracy theory” has been belatedly admitted as conspiracy fact.

The report stunningly documents of this “shadow war” that, “The missions have involved elite teams of Ukrainian operatives drawn from directorates that were formed, trained, and equipped in close partnership with the CIA, according to current and former Ukrainian and US officials. Since 2015, the CIA has spent tens of millions of dollars to transform Ukraine’s Soviet-formed services into potent allies against Moscow, officials said.”

Long after independent media had asserted the deep, years-long involvement of US and allied intelligence in creating the conditions for a major Russia-Ukraine war, which was launched in Feb. of 2022 (and those same indy media voices were dismissed by the MSM for it), it seems unnamed US officials are now openly boasting about assisting with brazen assassinations to the Washington Post:

Secure your limited edition autographed copy of Alex Jones' latest bestselling book The Great Awakening!

The cluttered car carrying a mother and her 12-year-old daughter seemed barely worth the attention of Russian security officials as it approached a border checkpoint. But the least conspicuous piece of luggage — a crate for a cat — was part of an elaborate, lethal plot. Ukrainian operatives had installed a hidden compartment in the pet carrier, according to security officials with knowledge of the operation, and used it to conceal components of a bomb.

Four weeks later, the device detonated just outside Moscow in an SUV being driven by the daughter of a Russian nationalist who had urged his country to “kill, kill, kill” Ukrainians, an explosion signaling that the heart of Russia would not be spared the carnage of war.

The operation was orchestrated by Ukraine’s domestic security service, the SBU, according to officials who provided details, including the use of the pet crate, that have not been previously disclosed.

At every turn in the very revealing WaPo piece, US officials emphasize that covert CIA and allied intelligence operations aimed at Moscow have been a “reality” going back many years.

“In reality, they represent capabilities that Ukraine’s spy agencies have developed over nearly a decade — since Russia first seized Ukrainian territory in 2014 — a period during which the services also forged deep new bonds with the CIA,” the report continues.

Not only did US intel officials tell the Post that the CIA has a significant presence in Ukraine, and particularly the capital, to this day – but the agency has provided Kiev with advanced surveillance systems and has even guided the formation of a new SBU (Security Service of Ukraine) unit called the “Fifth Directorate”.

Ukraine’s military intelligence has also received significant support. “GUR was our little baby. We gave them all new equipment and training,” a former US intelligence official told the Post.

The notion that Ukraine has become a US proxy since the 2014 Maidan coup is often dismissed as “Russian disinformation.”

    — Aaron Maté (@aaronjmate) October 24, 2023
Darya Dugina’s killing was one among dozens of high profile killings and sabotage bombings carried out by Ukrainian intelligence – with the supporting help of US counterparts – which has also included two large attacks on the Kerch Strait bridge.

However, as expected the sources speaking to the Post tried to put some distance between the CIA and direct involvement in the assassinations. The officials claim the CIA only served a support role, or what amounts to “bolstering those services’ abilities to gather intelligence on a dangerous adversary.” Of course, the Kremlin is not going to see things this way, nor would any country coming within the CIA’s crosshairs.

At a moment the globe’s attention is by and large completely focused on events in Gaza, The Washington Post has this week published a bombshell report which vindicates Moscow’s worst fears.

Up to now, any pundit daring to write that Putin’s accusations that the West has for years backed a covert campaign to destabilize Russia while stoking the 2014 (and after) civil war in Donbass, was smeared as a ‘pro-Kremlin propagandist’.

According to Trump, he will reinstate a travel ban for “terror-afflicted” foreign countries while also pausing all refugee resettlement to the U.S.

“If you hate America, if you want to abolish Israel, if you sympathize with jihadists, then we don’t want you in our country, and you are not getting in,” Trump said.

The former president’s distinction to stop refugee resettlement altogether is significant, as fellow GOP presidential primary candidates have said they will oppose importing Palestinians from Gaza to the U.S. but have not commented on the federal government’s resettlement program.

Former President Donald Trump, the front-runner in the Republican presidential primary, is again promising to halt all refugee resettlement to the United States in response to war in Israel following terrorist attacks carried out by Hamas.

“A vote for crooked Joe is a vote to turn the United States into a hotbed for jihadists and make our cities into dumping grounds resembling the Gaza Strip,” Trump told voters in Derry, New Hampshire. “A vote for President Trump is a vote to … keep radical Islamic terrorists and their supporters the hell out of our country.”

Peace would be great in this tragic part of the world but the difficulty is to get both sides to stop fighting.

Perhaps the two sides could be asked to agree to the following: (1) Hamas agrees that, if Israel also agrees to the deal, Hamas will stop fighting and will undertake never to attack Israel (as opposed to defending itself in response to an attack), to build its future defences safely distant from civilian areas, and will renounce its stated objective of eliminating the state of Israel. (2) Israel agrees that, if Hamas also agrees to the deal, Israel will stop fighting and will undertake never to attack Gaza (as opposed to defending itself in response to an attack) and not to try to eliminate the people of Gaza or try to take over that territory.

Because it was Hamas that started the latest round of violence and in view of their stated objective and fundamentalist religious beliefs, I suspect that the most difficult aspect to agree and to be assured of is Hamas's promises.

US hits ‘dozens’ of Iranian sites in strikes, as Iran targets US bases in region | BBC News

Published

on

The US said it has hit “dozens” of Iranian military targets in overnight attacks, in response to Iran hitting commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz.

The military said it struck “air-defense systems, coastal radar sites, missile and drone capabilities, and small boats”, using aircraft, ships, and drones – including “one-way attack sea drones for the first time”.

“The Strait of Hormuz is a vital maritime corridor for global trade,” the US military said. “Iran does not control it”.

In response, Iran said it targeted US bases in Jordan, Bahrain, and Kuwait and also radar systems in Oman.

Trump demands 20% toll on cargos passing through strait of Hormuz | BBC News

Published

on

President Donald Trump has said the US is reinstating a naval blockade of Iranian ports and will impose a 20% charge on all cargo shipped through the Strait of Hormuz following days of escalating strikes between the two countries.

He said this would stop “Iran’s ships or customers” from entering or leaving the key oil shipping route, but “all other countries will have fair and open use of the Strait”.

Iran’s foreign minister later said whoever provides safe passage “should be compensated for this service”, but Iran would remain the strait’s “GUARDIAN” – using Trump’s word.

Tehran and Washington clashed over the strait’s control after exchanging strikes in the region overnight and on Monday.

The US said it carried out strikes against military targets in Iran, targeting air defence systems, coastal radars, and missile and drone sites. Iran said it responded by striking US military bases in Kuwait, Jordan and Bahrain, and radars in Oman.

US launches more strikes on Iran and resumes naval blockade of ports | BBC News

Published

on

The US military said it was carrying out a new wave of strikes on targets in Iran. It said the aim of the attacks was to degrade Iran’s ability to attack shipping in the strait of Hormuz. It came ass the US Navy resumed its blockade of Iran’s ports.

Iran said that control of the strait of Hormuz was required for its national security and it will exercise sovereignty over the key shipping lane, whatever the cost.

President Trump announced that he was scrapping a plan he had announced a day earlier, for placing a 20% toll or tariff on all cargos passing through the strait of Hormuz.
