It seems that some people are upset that we took a stance on gay conversation therapy in this video.

In my view there's a difference between being politically impartial and standing up for people's human rights & safety.

If you want to unsubscribe because you think it's partisan for us to say a practice which includes "corrective r*pe* is wrong, then I'd really encourage you to reconsider what you think should be political.

Also feel free to unsubscribe because when issues like this arise again were not going to shy away from protecting people's human rights, dignity, mental health and basic safety – Jack

I don't understand, can someone explain what the reason is that they aren't banning it?

  3. @turntapeover5749

    December 29, 2023 at 9:22 am

Its not a question of should or shouldn't. It MUST be banned everywhere because it's not therapy. It's modern torture.

  9. @owlnyc666

    December 29, 2023 at 9:22 am

Should people who volunteer to undergo conversion therapy be prevented by law from getting such therapy🤔

  10. @ibrahimozgursucu3378

    December 29, 2023 at 9:22 am

My opinion before seeing the video: Depends on what's being done, anything illegal outside of gay conversion camp should be illegal within it too. (physical or mental abuse that could get you fined or jailed)
If it's all within the law having the camps is probably better because you can at least monitor it taking place as humanely as possible; or else people who want to convert gays to straightness this badly will try to do so in a more unofficial/informal manner and thus might get abused way worse in secret inside someones barn.
If you want to stop this from happening just try to change the culture, you will not do that by excluding or annoying the community you're trying to change.

    December 29, 2023 at 9:22 am

This should've been banned before it even existed. You do not have the right to attempt to change someone else's sexuality, doing so amounts to abuse and should result in a lengthy prison sentence.

  12. @owenstarkey1941

    December 29, 2023 at 9:22 am

I havent read much into it but surely if u are gay and over 18 and wish to change your sexuality then u have the right to the choice of attempting conversion. Exactly the same as an over 18 who wishes for a sex change. Then again the conversion therapy must be 100% accurate and work without hurting the participant. So in my opinion they should make it legal if they find a valid way to do so and it should be done with the consent of the participant

  13. @dantheman192

    December 29, 2023 at 9:22 am

I'm gay and I think gay conversion therapy should be banned for anyone under 18. if your an adult you should be free to do as you wish and seek whatever kind of "therapy" you want.

The problem, as I see it, with an outright unqualified ban on conversion therapy is that it would lead to a closing of dialogue and greater hostility between LGBT people and conservative religious communities.

Just imagine if a gay person comes out in a conservative church or a trans person comes out in a conservative Muslim community. People in those churches would be fearful of saying anything lest their comments were perceived as trying to engage in conversion therapy, a now criminal offence. So instead, the LGBT persons would simply be ostracised from the community, with no discussion or dialogue. They could end up being isolated from many of their own friends or families, since those people would fear that any conversation around the issue could incriminate them as trying to "convert". The lack of dialogue would also prevent conservative religious communities from ever being able to reconsider their views and change their mind.

So I am unpersuaded that an unqualified ban would be a good idea. I think it would make life a lot harder for a great many LGBT persons and lead to a hardening of attitudes within religious communities.

  16. @properuser

    December 29, 2023 at 9:22 am

"Is", It shouldn't be even a question. It should be illegal point blank.

  17. @theoelliott5944

    December 29, 2023 at 9:22 am

I think the debate over whether conversion therapy works is irrelevant. No matter what side you're on, it is still wrong to infringe on the rights of a homosexual adult to decide for himself if he wants to have conversion therapy, and for a conversion therapist to have a career. Banning consensual conversion therapy removes that choice, which is just totalitarian and draconian.

  18. @bambaclart4592

    December 29, 2023 at 9:22 am

What if someone doesn’t want to be homosexual? Shouldn’t they have a right to consensually get access to this treatment?

  19. @myowncomputerstuff

    December 29, 2023 at 9:22 am

As an American living in a state where sexual reparative therapy is banned, I just want to warn that this could end up doing more harm than good for many adults who are going to seek out such therapy for themselves regardless of the legality. And when these institutions go underground, they are subject to no regulation. Obviously it makes sense that the government would want to protect its citizens from physical harm and starvation as the video suggests, but depriving people of having professional and confidential dialogue about ANY subject that brings them distress is essential. No person struggling with mental health issues should have to feel like a thought-criminal.

  20. @way2tehdawn

    December 29, 2023 at 9:22 am

Gay conversion therapy is terrible, if someone doesn't want to be gay they shouldn't be compelled by the state to become gay.

  21. @TheMerchantGuild

    December 29, 2023 at 9:22 am

It is literally their choice whether they want it or not, why ban some thing that is a free choice? They are not forced to take part

I swear, the Government say they wholeheartedly support brexit and want it done as soon as possible yet they go to the extent of breaking intenational law to stop its effects. At least be somewhat consistent with your beliefs/ideas, no matter how stupid they are

  27. @jakecostanza802

    December 29, 2023 at 9:22 am

Just wondering how conversion therapy for masochists would be like

  28. @FinalLugiaGuardian

    December 29, 2023 at 9:22 am

I think a simple law is that gay conversion therapy is banned for minors and the person seeking the therapy must seek it out on their own rather than being forced into it by family or friends.
