UK’s ‘broken road system’ is DAMAGING economic growth | Travel journalist explains

Published

on

‘We’ve known this for years! This culture of hating the car, four wheels bad, two wheels good, and not building roads deliberately was going to lead to this and here we are!’

Quentin Willson says the UK road system is a ‘smoking, broken ruin’ and is damaging economic growth.

Wait for the super heavy electric cars!! Can we get some Roman's back to lay the roads? Like many other things these days, they are not built to last, but built to last long enough for repairs to be required and earn more money………..

What's happened to all the road tax contributions and council tax contributions etc ?

  5. @TheCoomer

    December 28, 2023 at 6:50 am

Road tax to be spent on the actual roads

All our politicians are void of any common sense. They are of low quality and with not an ounce of vision or patriotism.

As a biker there's a few times ive nearly come off due to bloody pot holes. How the lefty twats cant see the uk is turning into a third world country is mind-blowing.

Well if it wasn’t for the millions we are spending on illegal immigrants we could perhaps afford to repair our roads. When is it going to stop. Meet the boats half way and then return them to France. It can’t be that hard to understand.

  9. @paulinetaylor1125

    December 28, 2023 at 6:50 am

Even the lines on the motorways are disappearing and that can be very serious by causing accidents. That is not to mention the cavernous pot holes.!

The roads in the UK are in an appalling state, new layouts don’t work and cause congestion. It really is shocking.

Sadly costing hard working people in repairs to their cars is no joke to my daughter who only needs a car because of no public transport after 6 pm and she works regular nights and the market town to taxis mainly operates for the drinking revellers who need taxis to get to their drinking locations and home afterwards to unreliable taxi service for people to travel to work. She drives less than a thousand miles a year but she has to keep having her tyres replaced for punctuation purposes and broken springs to her home only minutes away from her work because of safety concerns she learned to drive on understanding the needs for her own safety and transportation. The town’s roads are very bad and sidewalks are even worse because of cuts to maintenance and repairs to roads and footpaths. Street lighting is so poor that it is dangerous to walking down streets to uneven pavement and cars parked on pavement and not being able to see the edge of the pavement and the step onto the road leading to falling over the raised manhole covering the street light across from where I live in not being able to see the pavement underneath the lamppost or even the opposite side of the road to the dimly lit new street lights that go off at midnight every night and don’t come back on until 6 am until daylight. The people working shifts are in danger trying to get to work for pedestrians and people who don’t drive and no public transportation is a increasingly obvious problem for towns and villages to have no bus service after 6 pm Monday to Saturday and no bus service on Sunday. This is the reality of modern day British culture and why the increase of vehicle usage has evolved over time in no reliable public transportation in England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 is the result of cuts to public transportation infrastructure and higher prices for rail transport and bus services to people who can’t afford to travel to work or get jobs outside of office hours and how towns councils are given 80% of councils tax money to cities to ensure they have plenty of transportation to all night long transport for city workers at the expense of rural people who are unable to work because they cannot get into work from outside of towns. This world has gone backwards regarding so many things that we are losing our infrastructure and industries which is why we need to look closer at our governments

Take take take & you get a bridge job if that in return.2 stering ball joints & 1 track rod end gone again in 7 months because of Derbyshire roads.

Makes you feel ashamed to be British. As soon as you drive off the Eurotunnel into France it's like going from a third world country into a first world one. We can't even build new roads properly, to anything like the standard of French roads. They fix the roads over there as soon as a small crack appears. Over here we wait until it's dangerous and someone from the public reports it.

  24. @nigelvaughan429

    December 28, 2023 at 6:50 am

There ultimate plan is to get us off the road firstly they do away with the layby for the bus so as to create more traffic when it stops for passengers then they narrow the road for cycle lanes introduce one way systems close off short cuts change traffic light times all to make it appear are roads are one big traffic jam then they bring in Khan and his foot soldiers around the country who on top off 20mph emission and road charges not forgetting 15min cities why the hell would they want to repair are roads

I won't ride my bicycle after dark now as pot holes too deep and large! In the last 3 months it really has gotten bad, so I am forced to walk now, although if desperate I ride my mountain bike instead in the hope that I won't go over the handlebars with the wide tyres and front suspension!

  30. @wealdtkd3559

    December 28, 2023 at 6:50 am

All pointless to the morons in westminster, as they are all planning 15 minute cities so the need to drive anywhere is going to be low

  33. @snowyowel7961

    December 28, 2023 at 6:50 am

We could do so much if we wasn't paying over 6 million pounds a day to house illegal migrants in hotels.
Plus millions to the human rights lawyers.
    And interpreters etc etc.
Our resources are already over stretched we can't afford to keep taking people in. Just my opinion of course.

It's like Southend the roads are in a terrible state yet they resurface a car park doesn't make alot of sense to get to the car park you have to drive down roads full of pot holes.

  36. @666bladez

  41. @clownworld-honk410

    December 28, 2023 at 6:50 am

The UK road system is symbolic of a general malaise. Even when the roads are upgraded, it's done so ponderously and badly, it's hardly worth the cost and effort as anyone who uses the M20 or The M25 can attest to. It's shameful.

  42. @hectorshouse7348

    December 28, 2023 at 6:50 am

    EV shill 🤢🤮🤑🤑🤑🤑

  43. @charleshughes2683

    December 28, 2023 at 6:50 am

Yes blame labour in the late 90's, don't worry about blaming the people who've had the last 11 years to do something about our roads, the Tories.
For a party I've heard people describe as the money party they are pretty awful as spending it efficiently. They are literally the party of "cuts", so probably silly to say the roads are like this because of new labour.

Really elementary stuff, it's a shame when people's ideologies get in the way of the honest truth. So easy for Tory sympathisers to just explain away the issues their own party has caused

  44. @oen3153

    December 28, 2023 at 6:50 am

But the roads in Ukraine need repair ,Surely they come first.

  45. @Hola-fz7jq

We are looking more like a third world country every day.

  47. @ukar69

    December 28, 2023 at 6:50 am

It seems to me that in many nations they don’t want the average person to prosper. Hence the net zero nonsense that the elite are immune to.

  48. @David-tt2mt

    December 28, 2023 at 6:50 am

Oh, you don't say! Front suspension damaged and costing several £oo to repair. The road fixing/repair is virtually non existent or when carried out is poorly done. For years the car tax payers have been ripped off for little to no benefit (but plenty of money for cameras, rainbows, cycle lanes and planters in the road etc.)
