It was a sad day when excellent Polytechnics and Technical Colleges became third rate pseudo universities turning out equally pseudo social science graduates!

Too many people who are not academically suitable for university have racked up too much debt – they would have been better off in the trades or armed forces. It's a scam Tony Blair started – he said he wanted over half of school leavers to go to university – then made them businesses – he did more harm to the country than any other Prime minister in living history except for Rishi Sunak!

Blair started those bloody mess, we wanted more vocational qualifications for working class kids, the education system had to be dumbed down to inflate grades across the 2000's and if any of us smelled a rat we were all denounced a bigots.

We used to have skilled workers in apprenticeships and trade based colleges, then the govt shut most of them – we only have ONE in bristol now. Skilled workers are produced by countries who understand this – like India and basically almost everywhere else but the UK.

The aim of the labour government that implemented this crazy policy was to generate an army of politically motivated activists. The education system is overwhelmingly far left. The Blairites behind this do not care if these people get a job, in fact it benefits them if they don't because those people will be eternally disgruntled and brainwashed to focus the blame on the right.

A brilliant idea would be doing these youngsters a favour get them doing apprenticeships

  18. @janetholden1978

    December 28, 2023 at 7:51 am

You dont need a degree to do most jobs. Students come out with degrees who cant string a sentence together answer a phone and end up working in bars. Better to learn a skill earn while you are learning and have no debt. Tnere is snobbery around degrees and from a parents point it makes them feel good saying their child is at University

  19. @johnburrows3385

    December 28, 2023 at 7:51 am

Thr Tories don't want the proles becoming too educated.

  20. @girlgeeker5683

    December 28, 2023 at 7:51 am

next it will be poor people banned from Uni and work houses brought back in. If we really want to talk about education why are taxpayers refunding rich diplomats tax payers money for their childrens private education,

  21. @free..to..air..

    December 28, 2023 at 7:51 am

Ah..yes..the Mickey Mouse generation and their qualifying UNI credentials..God bless their innocent little socks !!

  22. @missinkling

    December 28, 2023 at 7:51 am

If I was younger I would take up a trade no.w. Another point on this topic is to accept our bright boys and girls for university places and stop bias placements for imported students. The UK first! Wow Nigel, 200 billion pounds??

  23. @unusedsub3003

    December 28, 2023 at 7:51 am

Yeh, just make England even more unpleasant for young people. Good one, gammons 👍

  24. @gjs321

    December 28, 2023 at 7:51 am

Too right – only the academically able benefit from a university education – the others struggle and add to the huge numbers with "mental health" issues. Convert 80 of our weakest universities to Further Education providers to train for the skills we need. Also, stop taking vast numbers of overseas students

  25. @marumaru6084

    December 28, 2023 at 7:51 am

The tax payer is being exploited so nothing will change!!!!

  26. @Vince_Paul

    December 28, 2023 at 7:51 am

This is why labour when in government changed how to get to uni and the amount of Mickey Mouse courses that universities have now. Labour is all about running up debt and not paying it back.
Now you get loads of people with pointless degrees doing basic jobs. An not paying back what they owe. How about changing the way they pay the loans back. To no matter how much you earn a percentage goes to paying back the loan you run up.

An let’s not forget the police have fast tracking with a Mickey Mouse degree over experience. This needs to be stopped also. As we now have people with a Mickey Mouse degree going up the ranks with no experience and are running the police service into the ground. As they have no idea of what they are doing.

  27. @djjlc

    December 28, 2023 at 7:51 am

Graphic design is a scam degree

  28. @JavaAndroid

    December 28, 2023 at 7:51 am

Agreed. Common sense. They take maximum loans, then default and never pay it back.

  29. @fazfinisher5598

    December 28, 2023 at 7:51 am

Degrees are getting totally useless, the jobs aint there and certainly its time to go straight into work.

  30. @mobilephil244

    December 28, 2023 at 7:51 am

No. No government will have the courage to change this – or anything else – unless we elect reform.

Watch as Will Kensington expresses concern about the state of the UK, arguing that Downing Street is no longer a place of power but has instead become Britain’s most expensive Airbnb.

This comes as Andy Burnham is set to become the UK’s seventh Prime Minister in a decade, seemingly no one challenging the “King of the North” the country’s top job.
