Israel says military carrying out ‘targeted’ operation in Gaza’s Al-Shifa hospital – BBC News
Israel’s military says it is carrying out a “targeted” operation against Hamas in Gaza City’s Al-Shifa Hospital.
An eyewitness inside the hospital tells the BBC they saw tanks and commando soldiers enter its main emergency department.
The White House says patients must be protected, adding: “We don’t want to see a firefight in a hospital”.
The US said it has intelligence backing Israel’s claim that Hamas has a command centre under Al-Shifa – Hamas denies this.

Authorities in the US state of Tennessee have released dramatic phone calls that were made to the emergency services after the botched execution of Christa Pike. They show there was chaos and confusion as emergency responders tried to work out whether a request for help in the execution chamber was genuine and not a prank call, allegedly leading to a delay in the inmate being taken to hospital. Christa Pike, who killed Colleen Slemmer in 1995, was given two lethal injections that failed to kill her. Her case is now in uncharted territory as she is thought to be the only person to have survived an execution attempt by lethal injection.
