Not really as the masked singer is absolutely terrible tv of no value at all where as this is entertaining, interesting and has loads of value in keeping me entertained and informed.

I had winnie the pooh in my head, which was cemented when Ben said 'Oh Bother!'. He then said Breeze in the trees which flipped me straight to the true answer

Great picnic hamper and drinks carrier from a more gentle time. Now it's a burger in a bag.

Impish Ebbers is the perfect nickname to portray just how much fun he has making famous recipes from history and toying with the normals because he has ultimate control and gets to watch the guys suffer trying to identify the event for the recipe while he constantly attempts to irritate them by dropping hints and playing with their heads to confuse them so he can continue to have his fun 😂

I had an inkling when Ben said “cold chicken is inside it”. Because that’s nearly the exact quote from the book. Then when he pulled out the plate of ham beef and tongue, I was certain. It’s been a long time since I read that book. 25 years or so at least. It’s not a common book to be reading here in the states.

I know this video is a year old but this is really one of my favourite series. and I think a collab with @TastingHistory for this series would be great!

    Earl of Sandwich ? 3:40

not really sure how this counts as a historically memorable meal, it's more of a memorable meal from fiction, which is something else entirely! I was so confused, I couldn't work out what picnic has been historically significant and would have this food. I know this is an old video but how on earth did you decide this was a historical meal?

Just based on the food up through about 8:08 I was CONVINCED it was the sandwich that killed Archduke Franz Ferdinand, which the Edwardian era lent to, but every other clue just completely screwed me.

I forgot to get the time code but by the time he said potted meat… I said invention of the picnic so I was close but not right.

I read the book. Does that count?

Ben saying "Oh bother" at 6:00 brought me back to Winnie the Pooh and now I'm forever going to see him as Pooh Bear

Late, but I gotta agree with Mike. He would've put down the picnic scene too if he had any indication it would've mattered. Being asked "what was the thing in my picnic basket from" after getting jabbed at for all the picnic gear he bought, then getting points off for not mentioning "oh and it was also a picnic?" That just seems cheap. Not giving the obvious info that wasn't asked for shouldn't be a point off.

Where abouts does Barry live in Hampshire then I feel like we are close!

I loved this video. Ben cooking and showing off, and "being Ben" (which I mean as a compliment), and Barry & Mike beeing Barry & Mike (again, a compliment). I had however no clue at all concerning the meal, and still dont have it. I dont know the book and I guess its pretty much "UK only".

I knew this was for a picnic but blanked on The Wind and The Willows! I loved that story as a child. (Canadian child, British Mum)

Love the video and the idea! But please don't use that "bleep" sound again if possible. It's the same tone as an emergency alarm here in the US and really caught us off guard.
