Conservatives Upset With May Over Talks with Corbyn – Brexit Explained

Published

MPs Attempted to Legally Ban No Deal: https://youtu.be/d9UTg40xTEo

Yesterday May entered into serious talks with leader of the Opposition, Jeremy Corbyn. While Labour’s stance on Brexit is quite difference, May hoped they might be able to forge a solution for Brexit. However, all she seemed to do was upset her own party, with Tory MPs repeatedly calling her out during PMQs yesterday.

It seems that due to an edit error the last speaker in this video is cut off. We can't fix this issue now, but Stewart Hosie's question and May's response can be found in the full video: https://youtu.be/d9UTg40xTEo

  24. @SamFisk

    December 28, 2023 at 7:54 pm

I find it amusing that members her party would call her out on this because there are a number of clear reasons she's doing it, including those re a trap to lay blame on Corbyn. It has been known for a while (and after the last weeks is plainly evident) that to get any deal through parliament will require support on both sides of the house, and the best way to achieve that is to work with Corbyn. Furthermore it is also the best way to convince the EU you can get any changes through to encourage them to enter discussions again and approve any required extensions. They have literally stated that… Even their objections don't make sense, she's not handing him any power he didn't already have.

By amusing I mean in a dark, desperate way, where people would rather cling to their ideological differences than work for the benefit of the country. I may be similarly very biased as a left-wing remainer, particularly in the face of Tory policy and actions over the last 12 years (since I turned 18), but the last couple years of Brexit have shown a good number of the Tories for what they are: incompetent, petty, short-sighted, and selfish (presuming there isn't a greedy motivation to tank the UK). I'm not surprised of course.

  25. @alexlaza5301

    December 28, 2023 at 7:54 pm

    it's a trap!

Great videos! It does make it easy to us, EU citizens, to understand and follow all the changes around Brexit. I was wondering if you could make a video about the role that the Queen could or could not play in Brexit. Many thanks,

  27. @heliotropezzz333

    December 28, 2023 at 7:54 pm

So many people moan 'Why can't politicians work together in the national interest?' Any move to work together should be applauded.

  28. @rof8200

    December 28, 2023 at 7:54 pm

If May's Deal is a good Deal, why was it rejected thrice? And by a large margin also.

  32. @thomascowie3908

28 videos in the last month and a more than 4 min video is the shortest of the lot!
I understand that politics is complex and you feel the need to cover it well but this is not in line with your strapline 'Too long; didn't read'.

Either have shorter videos or less of them or change your goals as a channel. BBC news or similar can provide as comprehensive a summary in less time in an article and I know and believe that TLDR News can strive for better.

Don't lose sight of your original and founding principles!

May is a disgusting traitorous hag who needs to go now. In fact she should be taken to court on charges of treason as she’s handing over power to a foreign government

  34. @toddy47b

    December 28, 2023 at 7:54 pm

She has spent years calling corbyn incapable and a traitor. yet now she begs and pleads for his help against her own parties wishes, for a deal which has failed 3 times, one of which was the worst defeat ever in parliament. my father used to say gordon brown was the worst prime minister in living memory. he is a paragon compared to this dithering, bone idle, waste of space.

  35. @siebenq9369

    December 28, 2023 at 7:54 pm

Those who promote a no deal Brexit as it would be a economic success, should rot in hell, people are going to loose their job, families will suffer, people are going to die. Face reality.

  40. @astrophonix

    December 28, 2023 at 7:54 pm

This is all fake, they're just playing games. It was their intention all along to scupper Brexit and their only concern is making sure no one party or politicians takes the blame for betraying Britain. This whole debacle proves it is now time to find a different political system from representative democracy, which is no longer fit for purpose as these liars don't represent the people. It's time for participatory democracy in which we can do away with all politicians and all the obsolete rubbish about 'left' and 'right' wings. We can decide and vote on policies directly, we don't need politicians at all.
