Major breakthrough on nuclear fusion energy – BBC News

Published

on

European scientists say they have made a major breakthrough in their quest to develop practical nuclear fusion – the energy process that powers the stars.

The UK-based JET laboratory has smashed its own world record for the amount of energy it can extract by squeezing together two forms of hydrogen.

If nuclear fusion can be successfully recreated on Earth it holds out the potential of virtually unlimited supplies of low-carbon, low-radiation energy.

The experiments produced 59 megajoules of energy over five seconds, more than double what was achieved in similar tests back in 1997.

Here we are talking about molecular nuclear fusion. Specifically the conversion of regular water, into heat, plus helium and free radical oxygen gases, with emission of light flashes and X rays

I think the military in 4-5 countries have had it or something similar for at least 20 years. Some countries on Earth have had a joint moon base/colony on the moon for years. I think there's a good chance they also have one on Mars. Fusion power is probably what powers them and the transport ships. I don't think they have FTL ships yet but fusion ones that can go hundreds of thousands of miles per hour they do. These are not ET reverse engineered but 100% human tech. They produce a gravity/antigravity field which also serves as a shield and negates inertia. The power companies on Earth will control it just like oil and they will have all kinds of excuses as to why they will be charging a bazillion dollars a year to use it, when in fact it will only cost pennies a day to produce it. The only reason the countries are leaking the secrets on how to make it is there are other oil free technologies on the horizon such as 50% efficient solar panels and battery technology 10 times better than todays.

Why are we simulating fusion on earth? Why are we trying to create a star in a lab, when the star is in space? There's fusion in outer space. Why dont we try to use it there, and build nuclear fusion reactors in outer space? I ask this question out of curiosity. That's all.

Even though they haven't achieved a sustainable fusion reaction, 5 seconds is a long time compared to 20-billionths of a second just a decade ago. Also, these "donut reactors" create the pressure conditions needed for fusion using electromagnets and liquid helium set just above absolute zero. That makes these reactors contain the greatest temperature gradients in the observable universe, similar to the early years of the universe after the big bang, -280C – 150,000,000C in just one reactor. Unimaginable how anything could be built to sustain that.

Every major "breakthrough" in nuclear fusion has been a very brutal disappointment and a reminder that some things are just never going to happen. Nuclear fusion power plants, warp drives, and practical high temperature superconductors are science fantasy.

Can we seriously stop pretending like these things will ever be possible and focus on solving meaningful real problems with much more viable and achievable solutions instead?

No energy  and carbon problem left with cold  fusion shooting Hg nucleuses into D2O for D-D fusion 59% to T+p not He-3+n meabs later D-T fusion. T  also from fusion and Hg spallation, to Hg-197 for epsilon decay Au-197 gold, neutrons. Added new CO2 turbime cycle with sucking  centrifugal compressor pump  rbackflow cooling (indirect) allowing th. isolation of all efficiency near 100% without cooled condensor in cycle etc

LHC in CERN is shoting Au same Hg with much more energy than needed for fusion, gold production and needle-thick liquid metal military guns that can break into every armour causing explosions inside easy up for air defense also up to all satellites with just 200g Hg 0.01c 3000km/s with same kinetic energy like 400kg granate at 5000km/h.

Small LHC like feriis wheel turnable also in vertical axis for aiming and fine el mg. correction also addable.

    Possible also ring accelerator drive

shooting into tube with water (D2O) for linear slow down driving forward also with more mass for ship's etc.

simply counter accelerator ring added shooting same direction other side beam el. mg. spreaded.

In stars, the energy density flux of alpha particles (electromagnetic energy of the alpha flux) helps to carry out thermonuclear fusion, perturbs the medium, for example, proton plasma, the plasma density function collapses, space twists, proton strings appear with one wave function and a torsion field (isotropic space torsion group affine connection), nuclear waves in the wave superposition of such a condensate, when superimposed, remove the Coulomb barrier, "ignore" it, hence the deficit of solar neutrinos. Here it is, nucleosynthesis: when a substance is disproportionated in such a primary state, heavy and superheavy elements are obtained:)

Total BS! Nuclear fusion is a 65-year-old scam. It is an industry monster fueled by money and lots of it. One day someone important is going to get smart about this. Last go around my government took money from its people and gave this industry 700 million dollars and with that they shot a little tiny ball with a very powerful laser and it blew up, wow. They have been putting on little shows like this for 65 years now and they call this a breakthrough, I call it what it is, a scam that produces a lot of money but no electricity!

Cyber Attack: Ransomware causing chaos globally – BBC News

Published

Tens of thousands of organisations have been caught out by a computer virus called WannaCry. The malicious software locks data away and demands a payment of up to $300 (£230) a time before it will restore scrambled files. In the UK, many hospitals fell victim and some health organisations diverted ambulances and cancelled non-essential services as they sought to contain and clean up the infection. Infections in more than 99 nations are being reported by security firms. It appears that the hardest hit are Russia and Spain.

Is this AI’s moment of truth? | BBC News

Published

on

A year ago, artificial intelligence was being sold as something close to science fiction — a technology that could transform society, cure disease, even reshape the global economy.

Today, the tone is changing. The companies leading the revolution are racing to the stock market — chasing billions in investment — while quietly confronting a much harder reality: AI is expensive, unpredictable, and far from profitable.

At the same time, some of the very people building this technology are warning we may be going too fast — even calling for a global pause.
And beyond Silicon Valley, a different story is emerging: growing public anxiety, political backlash, and the rise of what some are calling anti-AI populism.

So is AI entering its most pivotal moment yet — caught between financial pressure, technological risk, and political resistance?

AI Decoded Presenter Christian Fraser is joined by Financial Times AI Editor Madhumita Murgia, Thematic Strategist at Deutsche Bank Research Adrian Cox and Richard Coffin, Host of popular investing podcast ‘ The Plain Bagel’.
