They say Hunt is not going to stand. On past election showings he would not expect to win. But has Truss chosen to go in a way that does that to Hunt as revenge ? Or is Hunt hoping to rise above an inconclusive contest, with the incumbency advantage of his present post ?
Truss must surely be raging at the whole Tory party now, she has not always been one, and already could not save any of her policies, so it would have been a good personal move for her to call a general election in revenge on far more causers of her fall than just Hunt.

  24. @bobeg749

    December 26, 2023 at 11:40 am

I don’t understand this (I’m an American): Liz Truss campaigned on this policy and was elected even though her rival, Rishi Sunak, predicted it would fail. And of course it did. But Liz Truss is one of the few politicians I have ever heard of who did exactly what she promised to do. And what she was chosen to do. Yes, it did blow up, but why does her Party pretend they had nothing to do with it?

  25. @edwardblair4096

    December 26, 2023 at 11:40 am

I started watching this channel while Brexit discussions and planning were in full swing. To me, in the USA, this seems to be more or less a continuation of the inherent problems and contradictions involved in the attempt to separate the economies and political ties between the UK and the EU. The UK wanted to gain the benefits of being independent while at the same time keeping most of the advantages of being part of the larger organization. These two desires, in different proportions, and dealing with their consequences are leaving the UK political parties very little room to accomplish anything meaningful.
