Vaping: What are the medical impacts? – BBC News

Published

on

As Australia looks to ban recreational vaping and the UK cracks down on vaping products targeted at younger people, what are the medical impacts of the habit?

A doctor at the Imperial College London talks though the potential risks vaping could cause for younger people.

He also gives his thoughts on the UK government’s crackdown to stop some marketing of vapes and a loophole which allows retailers to give free vape samples to under-18s.

all you vapers, especially those of you who have been rescued from cigarettes by vaping. I myself indulged in cigarettes for 46 years and long term smokers will understand when I say that I had reached the point of giving up on trying to quit. During this time of accepting that I would be a smoker until something, perhaps related to smoking takes me out, that would be the end of my nicotine indulgence story if not for the fact that while searching online for a canabis vaping pen that I had heard of, I found out about the fairly new world of nicotine vaping. I am now in my 16th year of nic-vaping and for the first couple of years I vaped straight lung hits until I found and preferred the mouth to lung atomizers and technique which I did for several years until I realized that since nicotine is so absorbing that mouth to nasal was giving me my nic-hit without involving my lungs. I have been happy and satisfied with MTN vaping for several years now. You all should try it! … 👁

I've been vaping since 2007 when those devices that looked like cigarettes debuted called NJoy. The industry evolved with different styles of devices that were built good and bad along with he controversial product, ejuice with that magic word that people like to smash on… Glycerin. Look. I've been vaping for over 15 years. The worse thing I've experienced from vaping was getting my hands on bad ejuice that taste horrible. The best things I've experienced was the fact that I can taste food better and my person and home don't smell stale cigarettes. What happened in late 2018… The whole story was not told. True minors have been accessing vape products, but it was rarely reported that they were using bootlegged pods and even recycling JUUL pods by filling them up with foreign substances. THC was one of them and that was before THC vape juice was in testing. It was also a 3 month ordeal that was isolated in The US as I can not recall no other country in the world going through with what we went through. True, we should do our best to keep vape products out of the hands of minors, but don't go punishing adults who are legal to vape which is what has been happening since they fixed it to be harder to ship to and fro as you can find good deals online. To be blunt, the government have more dangerous things to focus on because vaping may not be the greatest alternative, but it could simply be on par with the dangers of smoking cigarettes in its own unique way. All they are doing is giving the tobacco company a hallelujah moment because vaping had cut in on their profits. They need to face it… Vaping is a permanent revenue generating fixture just the same as cigarettes rather if they like it or not and with 15 years of vaping, claims about what vaping is doing in my body is not comical, but laughable as I know what tobacco products do in my body. At this point, if they consider banning vaping all together one day in the future, they need to take away tobacco products, opioids, beer and processed foods… But don't ever touch hemp and marijuana. Its here now! You touch that, I feel sorry for the once who makes that call!

Its sad that many children are using it. Why is the government not doing anything for it? Are they pretending that they are unaware of this. As the doctor said, its the least thing the government did. It should not be made easily available. And parents should also be given proper awareness about it.

Im pretty sure that most people that start with vaping products will find cigarettes repulsive cuz cigs taste like crap…this gate way drug argument is bs…its like saying drinking alcohol will lead to a heroin addiction…addiction is per individual if someone is going to get addicted to a substance they will and no societal change will change that people are people and they will do what they want in the end…the more you try to prevent the youth from doing something the more likely they will…and we got to many idiots in power that don't seem to get that…like making tobacco a 21 and over substance serious you want 18 year olds to fight your war… but you cant allow them to have a smoke to aleiviate stress from combat…wtf are you idiots thinking…no wonder why no one wants to join the military these days…its not worth it…why die for a country that still thinks your a kid….go get a game console and let the elite fight their own wars

When the water starts flowing around neck, only then the authorities come to their senses. Young school children can be seen with vapes in their mouths and no one seems to be interested to stop them, neither teachers nor parents. That means youngsters enjoy too much liberty in this Congo country 😂

A paper published in the international authoritative medical journal "Nutrients" points out that e-cigarettes do far less damage to intestinal health than cigarettes. Cigarettes can disrupt smokers' intestinal flora and induce obesity, enteritis, colon cancer and other diseases. E-cigarettes are harmful to intestinal health. Does not alter the gut microbiome.

You people better wake up… I was a ( medical professional ) And they definitely causes harm. Also , they push these products as a way to quit smoking , but it's even more addictive and they passing off like that to sell more products. All smoking of any kind will effect the lungs. # Set the alarm ⏰️ Wake up people ( Vaping is very harmful ) Let's not play this game.

Just tried it today, freshman in highschool. Dont do it, my experience wasnt bad, (think i wasn't doing it correctly.) But, don't do it, i was extremely peer pressured since it is something that has been going around, and my friend literally started shoving it in my face. Its sad seeing people beg and go through withdrawal when they dont have it, it can really fuck up and change you life, I have learned my lesson and will not be doing it again. Please, be smart and dont do it like I did.

Tax bicycles more too, since the kids may sometime in the future get hurt, and this seeemingly harmless activity has been show to correlate positively with kids aquiring a drivers licence, and everyone knows that cars are the main cause of deadly and paralyzing traffic accidents. Treat the root cause, kids and young people are vaping because they have no future so might as well have a good 20 or 30 years before the whole planet is burnt to a crisp by climate change. If hard work and being a good honest person got you ahead in life then no-one would drink or smoke or vape but life is unfair and random so sod it, I'll take my chances because we're all going to die one day.

US hits ‘dozens’ of Iranian sites in strikes, as Iran targets US bases in region | BBC News

Published

on

The US said it has hit “dozens” of Iranian military targets in overnight attacks, in response to Iran hitting commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz.

The military said it struck “air-defense systems, coastal radar sites, missile and drone capabilities, and small boats”, using aircraft, ships, and drones – including “one-way attack sea drones for the first time”.

“The Strait of Hormuz is a vital maritime corridor for global trade,” the US military said. “Iran does not control it”.

In response, Iran said it targeted US bases in Jordan, Bahrain, and Kuwait and also radar systems in Oman.

Trump demands 20% toll on cargos passing through strait of Hormuz | BBC News

Published

on

President Donald Trump has said the US is reinstating a naval blockade of Iranian ports and will impose a 20% charge on all cargo shipped through the Strait of Hormuz following days of escalating strikes between the two countries.

He said this would stop “Iran’s ships or customers” from entering or leaving the key oil shipping route, but “all other countries will have fair and open use of the Strait”.

Iran’s foreign minister later said whoever provides safe passage “should be compensated for this service”, but Iran would remain the strait’s “GUARDIAN” – using Trump’s word.

Tehran and Washington clashed over the strait’s control after exchanging strikes in the region overnight and on Monday.

The US said it carried out strikes against military targets in Iran, targeting air defence systems, coastal radars, and missile and drone sites. Iran said it responded by striking US military bases in Kuwait, Jordan and Bahrain, and radars in Oman.

US launches more strikes on Iran and resumes naval blockade of ports | BBC News

Published

on

The US military said it was carrying out a new wave of strikes on targets in Iran. It said the aim of the attacks was to degrade Iran’s ability to attack shipping in the strait of Hormuz. It came ass the US Navy resumed its blockade of Iran’s ports.

Iran said that control of the strait of Hormuz was required for its national security and it will exercise sovereignty over the key shipping lane, whatever the cost.

President Trump announced that he was scrapping a plan he had announced a day earlier, for placing a 20% toll or tariff on all cargos passing through the strait of Hormuz.
