Johannesburg fire: More than 60 dead after building blaze – BBC News
More than 60 people have died and more than 40 are injured following a fire at a building in central Johannesburg.
Authorities say it’s unclear what sparked the blaze at the five-storey building in the South African city.
Firefighters evacuated the building’s occupants on arrival, and the search and recovery of bodies is continuing.

Americans are reacting to President Donald Trump’s escalating feud with Pope Leo XIV and the backlash surrounding an AI-generated image depicting the president as a Jesus-like figure, which has since been deleted.
On Monday, Trump posted a lengthy Truth Social message attacking the pontiff, who has been a vocal critic of the US and Israeli military operations in Iran.
He criticised the Pope, calling him “weak on crime” and “terrible for foreign policy”.
The Pope said on Monday that he has “no fear” of the Trump administration or “speaking out loudly of the message of the Gospel, which is what I believe I am here to do”.

In the 70s and 80s in NY slumlords would commit arson which would lead to insurance payouts. I wonder if this is the cause which in this case might have been done to seize the property and get an insurance payout. I guess we'll see.
