It seems pretty much a certainty that Andy Burnham will be the next British prime minister. Exactly when it happens depends on a few factors. We outline some of the reasons an early general election is likely.

If you believe that government has no role in our social and business life an agent of chaos is just what is needed. ByHow better to prove that government can't do anything right than by screwing up government.
That has been the GOP strategy in the US for 40 years.

Can you start a new channel for all the speculation? The great thing about TLDR used to be that it explained what had happened. Moving all the "let's guess about what might happen in the future" stuff to its own channel would let folks who love that kind of thing subscribe there, too, without youtube notifications about new videos being disappointing because it's not a "real" TLDR video but just speculation about what might be.
@dr0nzer

December 24, 2023 at 2:42 pm
He doesn't need Cummings, he did a good job as mayor of London, Boris can stand on his own two feet, the back benches need to stop slumming around and give him the support he needs to do the best job he can, if they don't they will just make thing even worsts. We need to pull together, the road is long and hard. PS we love you Scotland, Wales and Ireland 🇬🇧
@lostwizard
December 24, 2023 at 2:42 pm
Realistically, pretty much anyone currently in power and who has to face some sort of review (election, etc.) is going to face a very hard time keeping their jobs over the next year or so due to the economic fallout from covid. Add any other chaos (brexit, etc.) and it gets even dicier.

He, and every other national leader, should say “To hell with your bloody plague, our people have lives to live!” and respect civil liberties, human rights, and the rule of law. “Emergency powers” have been abused for as long as they’ve existed and the astute student of history hears a ruler say “You need to be afraid of such and such” and rightly interprets it as “You need to be afraid of ME.”
Besides, it’s not like people get dragged into movie theaters or bowling alleys or what have you against their will. You want to become a recluse, go ahead!

If Johnson loses his job around now it'll just be continuing a trend, Cameron lasted six years, May three, and now Johnson possibly one and a half. It seems the next guy'll last less than a year

@bestrafung2754
December 24, 2023 at 2:42 pm
I don't think Boris Johnson will go anytime soon for 2 reasons. Firstly, being prime minister has always been his dream and he always felt it would be fun. Of course, it's not as fun or easy as he thought, but he won't step down now because it's his dream and he knows he would look like a big fool. Secondly, his majority in parliament is very big and there are still many MPs who like him, so I don't think a vote of no confidence will work or even be done. If this pandemic goes on for the whole of next year too, then perhaps Boris going will become more likely. I don't think he'll be reelected in the next general election though.
@jamesr9227
December 24, 2023 at 2:42 pm
I don't get why Labour, LIberal Dems, and SNP doesn't give Johnson some cover and vote for the government's measures if they support it. The next election is four years away. Either people will forget, or give credit to the opposition for bipartisan support. Opposition should show that they are united in rejecting extremist back benchers.

Dom isn’t gone. The obviously staged photos of him carrying out a single cardboard box is a joke. Why would they stage that? Well, in order for him to pull all the same strings but without anyone looking over his shoulder. So “who is he advising now?” is the real question
