It seems pretty much a certainty that Andy Burnham will be the next British prime minister. Exactly when it happens depends on a few factors. We outline some of the reasons an early general election is likely.

I think one of the reasons the U.K. are not agreeing to the EU’s level playing field is that it’s one-sided (the U.K. mirroring the EU standards & not vice versa, overseen by ECJ, etc), rather than just too far reaching.
@christinemanning2681
December 23, 2023 at 12:10 pm
The UK aren't bluffing and neither is the EU, both will not back down and it's gonna get messy with a cliff edge Brexit IMO, of course nothing is set in stone just my feeling about it
@simondawes2520
December 23, 2023 at 12:10 pm
There should absolutely be no extension to the transition period. If no free trade agreement is made with the EU then it is more likely to be the EU that suffers despite the number of people living across the EU the UK had a large trade defecit with the block. The UK does not benefit from the protectionist tariffs applied by the EU to goods but the cost of countless products could fall if we had WTO terms.allowing us to remove the tariffs and buy from around the world at true market prices. This benefit will improve as the UK forges Free Trade deals with other countries and trading blocks. Coastal towns and villages around the UK could thrive again if the tUK removed free access to fishing waters. Trade is growing around the world and the EU is diminishing in world trade proportions year on year. The UK will thrive outside the EU and make all the forecasts of doom look as ridiculous as they are.
@markplant5785
December 23, 2023 at 12:10 pm
We and when I say we I mean the majority of this country voted out, you need to listen to the masses. I think we will leave on the WTO rules because we wont be able to broker a deal. To many in the EU are looking at us and what deal we can get. If we get a good deal everyone will want to leave. The EU is failing and everyone can see it
@aleccap5946
December 23, 2023 at 12:10 pm
Some believe we have already left the EU after delay and one extension after another. Do we actually believe we can trust Bojo
@pinchermartyn3959
December 23, 2023 at 12:10 pm
That's right there was a referendum, several general elections all confirming that we are leaving EU.
@elguapo1507
December 23, 2023 at 12:10 pm
LoL! Priceless! 45% of Brexit Party members want to extend the transition period!!?? You've been smoking something mate! 😂😂😂😂 As for the Corona virus being somehow a reason to remain under regulatory and political control of an outside organisation…where's the tie-up? I
@GETJUSTICE4U
December 23, 2023 at 12:10 pm
This remainer analysis lost all credibility the instant it portrayed the EU demands to keep the UK locked into its regulatory control as being reasonable and fair.
For example the UK standards are higher than those across the EU; even though only about 10% of UK manufactured products go to the EU. Tons of fish are thrown back (dead) into the sea due to EU regulations. Animals have to be shipped live to the EU (a furtive form of import tax) disregarding animal welfare. UK workers rights are by far stronger in the UK than anywhere else in the EU including Germany. An EU power of vito over all UK (world wide) trade deals does not create a level playing field for the UK.
The EU does not require any other country in the world that it trades with to be locked into its regulatory systems (control). This is because no (non EU) country would be daft enough to sign up to such a one sided arrangement.
@KillerBill1953
December 23, 2023 at 12:10 pm
BTW is that the same polling that predicted an overwhelming vote to Remain in the first place? That predicted a Labour victory last December? Citing polls is hot air.
@KillerBill1953
December 23, 2023 at 12:10 pm
There CANNOT BE a No Deal. It is all part of the Remoaner rhetoric. Most Leave voters I know voted to leave the EU, not keep any part of it whatsoever. The simple fact is that the EU needs us far more than we need them, and they are intent on keeping us in the EU in all but name, they want our money. Without the "level playing field" which we have not experienced for over 40 years in any event, the Germans and French will have to actually compete against us. We will win, as we always have, until we joined the EEC.
@mikemiller2131
December 23, 2023 at 12:10 pm
the UK is not governed by polls but by elected MPs.
@F-J.
December 23, 2023 at 12:10 pm
Polls are notorious for being WRONG.
@adrianfisher3349
December 23, 2023 at 12:10 pm
A Brexit extension would be economic suicide for the country and political suicide for the government. The people as a whole would suffer. Either the EU must change its approach or we go out on WTO terms.
@danielsheldrake
December 23, 2023 at 12:10 pm
We going no deal I think stops us paying the COVID19 emergency bill of the EU countries also we won't be liable for paying for the Eurozone crashing down.
@Roughpaws_Studio
December 23, 2023 at 12:10 pm
It actually makes a deal, and THE deal that the UK want, more likely. The EU can't afford to let us leave on WTO terms because they have a HUGE 100bn Euro trade deficit with us and because a few nations – such as the Netherlands and Denmark – have their economies rely HEAVILY on fishing in our waters. We can basically dictate terms now.
@davidcallaghan1710
December 23, 2023 at 12:10 pm
Out no deal leave that sinking ship corrupt eu all they care about is our money and fish
@reneagac4739
December 23, 2023 at 12:10 pm
I think you have completely missed the real reason. Although majority would understand an extension due to Corona Virus, they would also understand it if government sticks to their election promise. Either way, it wont effect votes in big numbers as it was expected (from last election) that they will stay firm on their stance. The minority that does not want extension however, they would no doubt completely and permanently lost their trust in Conservatives and this would have a big impact on next election and prime minister would be forever remembered as a liar. It would be a political suicide for Boris.
@23andrelopes

@AuntyEsther
December 23, 2023 at 12:10 pm
Bozo wants a deal with the States and they want lower food standards than the EU, and legislation is already passed to allow chlorinated chicken and hormone riddled beef; a no deal with the EU is necessary to secure a deal with the States as they have much lower animal welfare standards , and when the NHS is forced to buy medicines from the States it will be at several times the current price and those enamoured with Brexit may well find they can't get the treatment they need, as it will have to be rationed.
@frankabbott
December 23, 2023 at 12:10 pm
No extension, because there will never be a agreement ( no matter how long they negotiated takes ), the EU propose. agreements keep the UK stuck under the control of the EU , it’s not what we voted for, and we would not be a fully independent State. So any extension is pointless. The way the EU is performing now with the Coronavirus ,are on a possibility of breaking up, as they say something good always come out of something bad. Cannot wait to see the end of the coronavirus and the EU.

Why did you not use the later Yougov poll in April which showed that two weeks later the poll showed only 43% wanted to extend the transition due to Covid… Taking selective polls that suit your belief just makes you look untrustworthy and fake news.

How they got away with getting Brexit done at the GE is beyond me, Cummings plan (Boris's) was always to crash out with all the carnage that this will cause.
The EU are just getting fed up with the UK
