IF It happened, it would probably be best to be close to a major target. One bright flash and then eternal dark. Anyone who doubts that theory just google the 'Ant walking alligator people' of Hiroshima.

Nuclear power is a great deterrent…but it also makes you far more likely to be attacked, kinda like carrying a knife.

Writing as an American, the idea that civilians could evacuate in time died decades ago. Air-raid shelter plans have been allowed to fall into disuse and lack of funding. And a single EMP attack would render many modern vehicles incapable of operation by frying all their electronics. Same for communications systems and cellphones. The UK 4 minute warning basically gives enough time to go to a basement or cellar or closet and await events…meaning in some areas being vaporized or pulverized by debris. Dispersal of key gov't officials and staffs would have to take place hours or days before to ensure continuity of gov't in all but the worst-case scenarios. I recall something about the UK having "Regional Commissioners" who would have ultimate authority in their areas if the national gov't was wiped out or rendered unable to communicate or cope with post-attack matters in the immediate aftermath…but this was many years ago, and perhaps the scheme was cancelled.

N.B. In case anyone has not seen it, the movie "Threads", about a nuclear attack on the UK, came out in 1984.

We have not had a Royal Yacht for some time, so unsure what the plans are for the Royals, but I'd suggest they would be better placed to run the UK post any conflict than the political class.

Here in the uk we hold nuclear weapons but have no protection from a nuclear attack, at least for the mass civilians. We are resigned to the fact that the uk population would be completely decimated on the event if a nuclear war with any nuclear power

    December 22, 2023 at 11:36 am

The UK would most likely be the 1st country to launch nukes at Russia.. followed by France then USA.. the war would be over in a few days..MAD.. Mutual Assured Destruction.

I believe the plan is already afoot. If people stopped arguing about stuff they will see it. This whole war is a false flag. The signs are all there to see. Politicians know this. And they are clamoring for tickets to the future of humans.

I think our country is totally unprepared for this and why I believe they don’t think it would happen as for me I want a nuclear sub in the North Sea for all the time Ukrainian war is on going so we can sent everything we have to Moscow and military bases

  34. @erwin643

    December 22, 2023 at 11:36 am

Plans? Sounds like the Brits have NO plans.

For starters, how about re-commissioning that underground bunker with the lake, restoring and upgrading it? There should be something for lines of succession, even if the name at the bottom of the list is PVT Snuffy who maintains the facility full time.

The U.S. originally learned this shit from you guys during WWII, after all. As of late, the U.S. even has a new set of transportation tunnels between the Pentagon, Site R (their fallback site) the White House and Camp David. Their plan is to live a whole new life underground (while the rest of us die) apparently, if it gets that bad.

Before we could strike back the Russian hypersonic missiles would obliterate the UK command centres!

  36. @jamesrowntree108

    December 22, 2023 at 11:36 am

How many of these 4000 staff would abandon their families to go into hiding in the bunker.
Yes, save the politicians but let the ordinary people burn or somehow survive to come out later and take control over the survivors. Let's hope the enemy nuke all the secret bunkers first.
If the people cannot survive, why should the government who brought this down on the people survive? The first job of any survivors would be to hunt down those responsible and take care of them.

The UK is 20 miles from France (mainland Europe) if Russia hit us the nuclear fallout would kill millions in Europe, whether they wanted to or not Europe would strike back
