I don't get what people mean by bias, I think it says a lot more about them than it does about you that accurately reporting facts makes them think you have a bias

This channel spits centre right propaganda left and right! Plus the guy in the glasses really pisses me off. They have some okay content, but they don't seem trustworthy or bias when it comes to certain topics. If you're covering news, you have an obligation to be impartial, that's journalism! But if you can't keep your opinions to yourself then you should become a chronicler (most likely a shitty one).

Diversity really doesn't matter. Idk why people made a big fuss about it

I don’t get the ad issue. The ads are always at the end of the video so just… stop watching? Nobody is forcing you to watch the ads

The danger of hiring from your audience rather than wider; is both a lack of diversity and a tendancy to have a bias tilt.

    December 21, 2023 at 12:49 am

Although I would like a more diverse team, your current process is fair from a skills point of view. When companies start putting quotas in place, things become unfair in my opinion.

I respect the steps you've taken to combat bias, I think perhaps a further step you could take is to deliberately hire or consult with new team members and commentators that do not share the same politcal affiliations and identities as you and the rest of the team. This could help balance out the reporting during the research and production phase, rather than just catching bias once it has been released. Helps with diversity of thought, not just diversity of race, background, gender etc. And I know people requested specific TLDR channel X, I actually feel their are too many channels, too many places to go. I would prefer themed playlists in one place, but that's just me. Lastly about the ads, I appreciate the ads being put at the end. I think a lot of the irriitation is perhaps the ratio of ads to content, a 45 second ad read at the end of a 5 minute video feels weird. And the goofy segues can go, they get really grating after 2 videos in a row

Where are the women on your team? Some female representation would be fab!

  16. @thecowardlydm2805

    December 21, 2023 at 12:49 am

I don't mind the adverts at all, you gotta get paid. I do feel that it would be less grating if you changed up the script for the ad-reads more frequently.

Isn't there an algorithm in YouTube that would enable you to automatically have the subscription promo cut out when the video is being watched by an existing subscriber?

With regards to bias, and in particular the comment that said they find being LGBT immoral, it is in some instances impossible to be impartial.

Both sides will often read neutrality as passive endorsement of the other (I freely admit myself as an LGBT person that if someone said “both sides have their merits” about an LGBT issue I tend to feel it may be an admittance of sympathy to the other viewpoint, or at the very least pandering them to keep favour.)

Perhaps more controversially though I also believe that promoting opinions like “being LGBT is immoral” neutrally suggests they are an acceptable viewpoint within society, which they fundamentally are not, as they violate LGBT people’s basic human rights. There isn’t really neutrality on an issue like someone’s basic human rights (I.e. is it possible to be neutral on slavery? On someone’s access to food and shelter?)

  21. @paulrouth5997

    December 21, 2023 at 12:49 am

I thought your hiring practices (section DIVERSITY) were outstanding, in how you were able to remove bias in the hiring process up to the point of the actual interview. If you haven't already read The Undoing Project and/or Thinking, Fast and Slow I believe you would find them quite interesting and useful.

  22. @Smile8924

    December 21, 2023 at 12:49 am

Do you value 'Personal identifiers’ over 'Competence'? Why is 'Diversity' such a 'big topic' – shouldn't it all be about how good they are at the role you offer? <- this is the most prominent social problem – why do your personal identifiers hold more clout than how good you are at the task?

You have a left bias, which I appreciate you’re attempting to not be biased – you acknowledged you have more people reviewing content – Though if you’re all left-leaning, how will this affect your bias?
One thing I love about your content is the ‘slide show’ that goes alongside – So much so that I use your videos as examples of how to present to teams and groups at work.

  23. @torspedia

    December 21, 2023 at 12:49 am

I completely missed the announcement, when you were looking for criticism. I do have one main one though, the over use of the word "anyway(s)", as it makes it sound like you're not really all that interested in what you just said!

  24. @Helberier

    December 21, 2023 at 12:49 am

It's pleasing to see you care about correct prononciation but keep in mind that the essence and the message are much more important so don't worry too much if you get something wrong

  25. @Helberier

    December 21, 2023 at 12:49 am

You shouldn't apologise for being white males. There's nothing wrong in being white and male. Don't believe this enforced racial diversity need. The real diversity is that of thought and of personality!
