Published

on

Building vacancy rates are at a 30-year high in many US cities – including New York, which had a staggering 22.2% of office space sitting empty in the first three months of the year.

So what can be done with all that unused space, as many workers continue to do their jobs remotely?

Let’s give all that empty space to the immigrants and provide them with the resources to survive there instead of the hotel rooms…it wouldn’t take muchit’s a win win…hotels recover and offices filled with homeless immigrants where the city can pay the mortgage holders 350 dollars a day😮…gonna get banned again

Never going back to the office. I don’t care about commercial real estate. If they force me go back, I will quit and get the next job.

Turn those empty buildings to refugee housing. Make an inventory of all vacant buildings nationwide. Spruce them up to become first-class accommodation for refugees for free. The federal government will foot the bill including the lease to the buildings for as long as it takes. Everybody wins. Problem solved.

Calls for Ukraine to become member of EU as refugees flee conflict – BBC News

Published

on

Poland’s president is among those calling for Ukraine to be granted EU membership, as an estimated 200,000 refugees have crossed into Poland.

One couple at the border, originally from Morocco and living in Ukraine, told the BBC how they have spent over 24 hours on a train followed by a 70km walk to reach the border where refugees were separated into different queues, one for Ukrainians and one for non Ukrainians. The couple have now entered Poland.

Palestinians and Israelis clash over hillside – BBC News

Eight people have been killed and hundreds injured in protests in the occupied West Bank.

The number of Palestinians killed in confrontations with Israelis this year, in the area, is already more than 70 – the highest figure in five years.

The worst hotspot for violence has been in the Palestinian village of Beita, where locals began organising the recent protests after hard-line Jewish settlers set up a new outpost on land claimed by Palestinian olive farmers.

The BBC’s Middle East Correspondent, Yolande Knell reports.

Nepal-Tibet flood death toll exceeds 700 | BBC News

Published

on

At least 734 people have died and more than 2,400 people are missing in Nepal, local officials say, after flash floods on Wednesday, triggered by a glacier collapse.

In Tibet, the official death toll is 16, with 546 reported to be missing, according to Chinese state media.

Nearly 20,000 security forces are deployed in rescue efforts on the Nepal-Tibet border as the UN says rough terrain and rain is making aid delivery “extremely difficult”.
