Is it good for a baby to be swaddled or not so good. Swaddling involves tightly wrapping a baby in a cloth in the hope it might soothe them. But it’s controversial with some saying it could overheat a baby and restrict it’s growth. Now a British surgeon is warning the technique could cause hip problems in later life.

Baby’s should not even sleep for extended periods. They need to eat at intervals , held. I don’t get why we mammals just can’t wait to detach so quickly . Other animals are pregnant for longer. It’s crazy to me.

    I don't like swaddling a baby like a mummy
Try sleeping that way yourself and see how you would feel. A baby should be free. Restraining a baby just so you can get more sleep is selfish and cruel.

I have a one week old. I think I would rather be tired then to swaddle my child. I just don’t like it. My gut tells me it’s not right. My first 2 were never swaddled too!

My daughter was born with hip dysplasia (not hereditary). Her specialist says that wraps can cause it… I’ll swaddle my next baby if he isn’t born with hip problems, but rarely

Completely unhelpful discussion. Lefthand woman sounds like a judgemental snob. Nowdays the consensus has swung back to saying "swaddle so babies can sleep properly". You can always tell a lazy mother by the fact that the baby has a flat head 🙄

Edit: wow, I really hope that the crazy stupid half of people in this comment section don't learn how to breed, because if you are convinced that swaddling a baby is literally the work of satan and "child abuse", well…. I think you're beyond help at this point, sadly, and I pity your sad little lives. You need to read up to date studies, read about the moro reflex, and please never have children omfg you are probably one of those people who doesn't read up about the baby heimlich either and would watch helplessly as your child choked to death and the world is better with your line of ingrates ending with you and no further, I beg of you!!

Never swaddled my baby and he slept fine in all positions… side back or stomach. I let him sleep however he wanted.

Swaddling can give you such a happy long sleeping baby! It helps calm their Moro reflex. Babies when not swaddled wake themselves up – because they startle themselves. When swaddled – they don’t wake themselves up – hence they can sleep longer. I just observed this pattern anx behavior with my own new born Daughter. I am glad I swaddled her.

I don't think it's a good idea. Just a selfish thing parents do to make the babies be still and quiet.

I had my daughters in the 70's. No one I knew was swaddling a baby. If I was a mother of a newborn today I'd never swaddle. I've seen the 'cute' videos of babies waking from their naps and the swaddling being removed. Most of these babies' arms immediately spring up once the confinement is removed. I can't see how being wrapped like a mummy can be comfortable for very long.

I didn't put my babies on swaddle, just followed my gut feeling, they sleep freely when ever they want😊.

Swadleling does not look comfortable… I’m so glad I don’t have to do it to my baby once she’s born in April 🤰🤰🤰

Never used it with any one of my 3 (now ages 39, 36 and 29). It wasn't used Didn't trust the idea of swaddling without a papoose board for traveling via walking, biking etc.
Just because 'researchers' suggest something, it's not always good.

If a baby is back up to birth weight then they can sleep through the night without frequent feeds. Also, a baby will wake up and cry when hungry whether they are swaddled or not. The swaddle just prevents the Moro reflex from startling the baby awake.

I'm a member of the swad squad. We are all happier and healthier now that we are getting rest.

Oh for the love of all things Holy, why are people still doing this??? It seems rather selfish, cruel and there's a higher risk of SIDS as well as hip dysplasia!! I'd like to swaddle the mothers who swaddle their babies and see how they fancy it!!!

US hits ‘dozens’ of Iranian sites in strikes, as Iran targets US bases in region | BBC News

Published

on

The US said it has hit “dozens” of Iranian military targets in overnight attacks, in response to Iran hitting commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz.

The military said it struck “air-defense systems, coastal radar sites, missile and drone capabilities, and small boats”, using aircraft, ships, and drones – including “one-way attack sea drones for the first time”.

“The Strait of Hormuz is a vital maritime corridor for global trade,” the US military said. “Iran does not control it”.

In response, Iran said it targeted US bases in Jordan, Bahrain, and Kuwait and also radar systems in Oman.

Trump demands 20% toll on cargos passing through strait of Hormuz | BBC News

Published

on

President Donald Trump has said the US is reinstating a naval blockade of Iranian ports and will impose a 20% charge on all cargo shipped through the Strait of Hormuz following days of escalating strikes between the two countries.

He said this would stop “Iran’s ships or customers” from entering or leaving the key oil shipping route, but “all other countries will have fair and open use of the Strait”.

Iran’s foreign minister later said whoever provides safe passage “should be compensated for this service”, but Iran would remain the strait’s “GUARDIAN” – using Trump’s word.

Tehran and Washington clashed over the strait’s control after exchanging strikes in the region overnight and on Monday.

The US said it carried out strikes against military targets in Iran, targeting air defence systems, coastal radars, and missile and drone sites. Iran said it responded by striking US military bases in Kuwait, Jordan and Bahrain, and radars in Oman.

Explosions have been heard near two Iranian port cities, Bandar Abbas and Bushehr, state media has reported.

The UAE called the attack “brazen”, adding that an Indian crew member was killed and eight others were injured.

Meanwhile, the US military says it completed strikes on targets aimed at degrading “Iran’s ability to attack commercial shipping” – Iranian state media reports three people were killed.

US launches more strikes on Iran and resumes naval blockade of ports | BBC News

Published

on

The US military said it was carrying out a new wave of strikes on targets in Iran. It said the aim of the attacks was to degrade Iran’s ability to attack shipping in the strait of Hormuz. It came ass the US Navy resumed its blockade of Iran’s ports.

Iran said that control of the strait of Hormuz was required for its national security and it will exercise sovereignty over the key shipping lane, whatever the cost.

President Trump announced that he was scrapping a plan he had announced a day earlier, for placing a 20% toll or tariff on all cargos passing through the strait of Hormuz.
