Putin described as ‘most intelligent gentleman’ by former Austrian foreign minister | BBC News

Published

on

The former Austrian foreign minister Karin Kneissl, who hit the headlines when she danced with Vladimir Putin at her wedding in 2018, has moved to Russia.

In an interview, Ms Kneissl claimed that “political pressure” had forced her out of Austria and described President Putin as “the most intelligent gentleman”.

It comes as this month European Union leaders are set to discuss imposing additional restrictions on Russia over the war in Ukraine, in what would be a twelfth round of sanctions.

Nobody by a sound mind and even a little knowledge in the current geopolitics and the causes why the Ukrainian war was inevitable, will accuse Russia of starting it. I would feel very sorry if Mr Putin would not have done what he needed to defence his country from Ukrainian nazi praesident Zelenski and his US "friends" provoking any way they could this war fo many years!

what happened in the most recent years is that old europe tried once again to dismantle the russian federation so to then have free enterprise at colonizing and exploiting that vastly untapped land so to rob it of all of its resources at a very detrimental and inhumane cost to the russian people and culture. and now that the charade has been uncovered and they have been once again put in their place, the airways are being inundated with the likes of western ministry of propaganda reporters who are trying to find any opportunity to hide the ugly truth (they failed, they have been exposed for what they are, and even worse as a result their holdings globally are crushing and being eradicated at a very rapid pace) after being caught with their pants downs.

good for her and her wisdom and intelligence standing up to vigorous attempts at shaming and stereotyping….as if she represents the west or russia somehow. the west keeps doing that to their guests, trying to find anyone to play along with their propagated narrative of that 'sinister o so bad russian.' thank you for having the character to see beyond and thus nullify such petty, begging, pathetic, weak, unprofessional attempts at causing discord and finger pointing.

Russian drone hits Romanian apartment block | BBC News

Published

on

A Russian drone hit an apartment block in Romania causing a fire and wounding two people, officials say.

The incident happened on Friday in the town of Galati – close to Romania’s eastern border with Ukraine and Moldova.

Nato Secretary General Mark Rutte said “Russia’s reckless behaviour is a danger to us all”, while European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said Russia’s “war of aggression had crossed yet another line”.

Russian drones have strayed across Romania’s border a number of times during the four-year war with Ukraine, but it is the first time citizens from the Nato country have been hurt. Russia has yet to comment on the incident.

Iran restores some internet access – but is it enough? | Global News Podcast

Published

on

The government of Iran has restored some access to the internet this week, after a lengthy blackout imposed on and off, for most of this year. Many Iranians are celebrating the move, which has allowed some people to contact friends and family members abroad for the first time in weeks. It could also be a lifeline for Iranians who depend on digital platforms to earn a living.

There is speculation that the move could be intended to show US President Donald Trump that the regime is willing to make some compromises at home.

But digital monitoring groups say the level of internet access is still poorer than it was before Tehran imposed its blackouts, first as a response to mass protests in January, and again at the start of the war with the US and Israel. Access to some sites is still blocked and analysts say two-factor authentication is not available in Iran, impeding many people’s access to platforms like Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp.

Reha Kansara, from the BBC’s Global Disinformation Unit, tells us what restrictions Iranians still face, how people are trying to get around them, and how this partial restoration of internet access could play into the ceasefire talks between Tehran and Washington.
