Family secretly film life in Russian-occupied Ukraine – BBC News

Published

on

Russia is scrambling to pull its military personnel and citizens out of the city of Kherson ahead of a Ukrainian counter-offensive.

Ukrainian father Dmytro Bahnenko reflects on the months he and his family lived there under occupation and secretly filmed for BBC Eye at great personal risk.

Dmytro, whose day job had been as a local reporter, never thought he’d be filming the invasion of his home city.

Along with his wife Lidia, Dmytro struggles to shelter their five-year-old daughter Ksusha from the war as she increasingly senses the danger around her.

Kherson was the first major city to fall to Russian forces when they invaded Ukraine in February and he began filming the family’s lives when Russian soldiers first marched past their window on 1 March.

Hmmm, for some reason, many videos of people from places such as Mariupol, Zaporozhye and other regions are happy about liberation from azovites

Why would anyone believe anything that the BBC puts out? A person has to have a special level of ST@PID to not know that the BBC is nothing more than a government propaganda outlet.

Here in the West the public is fed crap about Putin being the monster, but those who understand and look outside mainstream media know this war is being caused and funded by the West. Your president is a Western plant, a misnomer. Putin has given many chances to avoid this conflict, but NATO insist on placing missile batteries along the Russian border in a threatening manner, knowing full well that this will cause war. My heart breaks for the normal citizens of Ukraine, but your government has allowed the U.S. and its bed fellows to wake the sleeping giant in the Russian bear, and its always the innocent who pay with their lives. The BBC is well known for its propaganda, take it with a pinch of salt.

So sad that the US is still using innocent civilians to continue this terrible proxy war with the Russians. Both nations are acting disgracefully. Then there's the hypocrisy of the US over Israel, which is being allowed to do what the Russians have done to Ukrainians to Palestinian civilians, including children. Disgusting!

When you look at all the countries that the US has started conflicts with of pushed into conflicts as in Ukraine & Palestine, a lot of children face a life of bad memories if they have managed to live through it ,as many haven't. The elderly neocon warmongers in the US have no thought of what their continuous conflicts are doing to the younger generation or perhaps they just don't cars.

This reminded me my 5years old-self in 1990 when the Gulf War happened. Terrifying noises, dark evening family gatherings under beds and tables, shadows and shiny duts flying over our house which were rockets at the time. After 30years i had to have therapy for 2years to get rid of my nightmares which i was being followed by some soldiers and killed by their guns at the end. War is crime, unhuman. I pray for every child who has to go through war and survive.

Другим украинцам повезло меньше, особенно в Мариуполе. И про них снять фильм сможет разве что кто-то другой.

New explosions near Iranian port cities, says state media | BBC News

Explosions have been heard near two Iranian port cities, Bandar Abbas and Bushehr, state media has reported.

It comes after another night of strikes between the US and Iran, with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps saying it hit two UAE tankers in the Strait of Hormuz and targeted US facilities in Jordan and Bahrain.

The UAE called the attack “brazen”, adding that an Indian crew member was killed and eight others were injured.

Meanwhile, the US military says it completed strikes on targets aimed at degrading “Iran’s ability to attack commercial shipping” – Iranian state media reports three people were killed.

US launches more strikes on Iran and resumes naval blockade of ports | BBC News

Published

on

The US military said it was carrying out a new wave of strikes on targets in Iran. It said the aim of the attacks was to degrade Iran’s ability to attack shipping in the strait of Hormuz. It came ass the US Navy resumed its blockade of Iran’s ports.

Iran said that control of the strait of Hormuz was required for its national security and it will exercise sovereignty over the key shipping lane, whatever the cost.

President Trump announced that he was scrapping a plan he had announced a day earlier, for placing a 20% toll or tariff on all cargos passing through the strait of Hormuz.

Clive Myrie presents BBC News at Ten reporting by Sarah Smith in Washington.

Donald Trump scraps threat of 20% fee on Strait of Hormuz cargo | BBC News

Published

on

President Donald Trump has reversed his threat of a 20% fee on all Strait of Hormuz cargo shipping, as the US battles to break Iran’s hold on the waterway.

He said the toll would be replaced by trade and investment deals with Gulf states, just hours before the US resumes a blockade of Iranian ports.

It follows renewed strikes between the US and Iran, which triggered a sharp rise in oil prices as tanker traffic through the Strait has virtually stalled.
