Does the UK have a constitution?

Published

on

Unlike the United States, the UK does not have what’s known as a codified constitution; There’s no single document that sets out exactly what rights you and I have, or how the government of the day is formed. But, just because we don’t have a single document doesn’t mean we don’t have a constitution.

No, we do not have a constitution.
Don't try to justify all this "Yes we do it's just uncodified" bullshit, it's nothing more than cope.

  2. @Evereghalo

    December 19, 2023 at 12:52 pm

    It does NOT.

If it is not written down, or "codified", it does not exist. Therefore the UK does not have a constitution. If a country does not have a constitution, is it even a country in the modern sense?

Does Britain have a constitution, no.

The rest the noise is nothing but tripe.

    December 19, 2023 at 12:52 pm

Nope and we shouldn’t have either because as we change our laws can change as well if you create a constitution here we would be stuck forever in the societal state we are today

England and Wales don't have a constitution, Scotland has the Declaration of Arbroath, and the Claim of Rights.
You should also know before you make videos about it, the UK and Britain are not the same thing.

    December 19, 2023 at 12:52 pm

We desperately need one full of absolute rights and other rights that limit government.

  15. @Jack-kx5rf

    December 19, 2023 at 12:52 pm

No but we really need one that is voted on by the people. A basic outline consisting of current legislation and have the citizens vote on amendments where a 2/3 majority gets passed.

  16. @nua1234

    December 19, 2023 at 12:52 pm

As the joke goes, the UK constitution is written in pencil

  17. @ob1coyote

    December 19, 2023 at 12:52 pm

The Constitution doesn’t “set out what rights we have” it restricts what rights the government can limit.

  18. @MRBStones

    December 19, 2023 at 12:52 pm

We don't have rights, simple as

  19. @jonathanfell688

    December 19, 2023 at 12:52 pm

It is based on all Legal Precendent and confirming judgements, and Laws past and are they in conflict with previous Laws.
    Your explanation is ridiculously niave.

  20. @andreasarnoalthofsobottka2928

    December 19, 2023 at 12:52 pm

Why don't you just get yourself a constitution? Just copy and paste the spanish one. It has some Interesting features. Among others it says that everyone must obey the laws, even the king and the PM. That would be new, wouldn't it?

  21. @markovermeer1394

    December 19, 2023 at 12:52 pm

Again, this clip misses the most important thing about a constitution: the added complexity to make changes to it. The current UK did change human rights with a simple majority: a real constitution avoids that.

The Declaration of Arbroath is the basis of the Scottish Constitution. You English must make the best you can of your mumbo jumbo.

  25. @Jimmie16

The UK is a union where the biggest member can't be trusted to play fair so the sooner it's broken up the better for the three smaller partners.

  28. @StrickerRei-Chn

    December 19, 2023 at 12:52 pm

uncodified constitution based on past bills and past procedure established by the parliament or the courts.

  29. @Yajjay833

    December 19, 2023 at 12:52 pm

In UK whole struggle was for getting power from Monarchy to Parliament…. therefore they got a unitary unwritten constitution

  30. @stephenbermingham6554

    December 19, 2023 at 12:52 pm

English common law and bill of rights are written documents.
This guy doesn't know what he is on about.

If it's up for debate, you don't have one.

it isn't ''britain'' mate. it's United Kindom. a UNION of NATIONS, NOT a mono-culture. ''britain'' is a damned lie. AND as I need to tell EVERY English person online somehow. ''Britain'' IS NOT a synonym for England.
The Members of the UNION do NOT all share a singular Law system. Your Rights and MY rights are different, Son. Learn where your nation/culture ends and the UNION it's PART OF begins.

  33. @hellmalm

    December 19, 2023 at 12:52 pm

Does Sweden have a constitution, well also kind of, just like Britain. 😂 🇸🇪

  34. @actually-will1606

    December 19, 2023 at 12:52 pm

We should have a proper constitution. We need everything laid out properly. So that people can’t just ignore these traditions and get away with blatant criminal acts. As we can see with the rise of ignoring and lying to parliament. Something that is above both the crown and the government.
