Hungary blocks €50bn of EU funding for Ukraine | BBC News
Hungary has blocked €50bn ($55bn; £43bn) in EU aid for Ukraine – just hours after an agreement was reached on starting membership talks.
“Summary of the nightshift: veto for the extra money to Ukraine,” Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said after Thursday’s talks in Brussels.
EU leaders said the aid negotiations would resume early next year.
The aid blocking was announced by Mr Orban shortly after the EU leaders decided to open membership talks with Ukraine and Moldova and to grant candidate status to Georgia.
Hungary – which maintains close ties with Russia – has long opposed membership for Ukraine but did not veto that move.

Voice-operated care robots are being marketed at older people who spend most of their time alone at home.
However, there are also concerns that technology pretending to be older people’s friends actually makes things worse.
CEO and co-founder of Intuition Robotics Dor Skuler said: “As humans we have a lot of social needs, we have a need for companionship, we have a need for social interaction and we felt that technology has reached a point where an artificially-enabled robot can do that.”

Donald Trump says the United States will not attack Iran ‘at any time’ before the midterm elections at the start of November.
His comments follow US media reports that the Pentagon was preparing plans for fresh strikes and a return to combat operations.

The Houthis in Yemen have attacked the presidential palace in the port city of Aden – the seat of the internationally-recognised government.
Meanwhile, President Masoud Pezeshkian has told Iranians that the country is facing its most intense blockade since the 1979 Islamic Revolution, and has accused the US of seeking to provoke public protests.
The Saudi-led military coalition fighting Yemen’s Houthis says it has intercepted a missile in the Medina region. The Houthis have threatened more attacks on Saudi Arabia but have denied carrying out this one.
Finally, according to reports, the US is considering using its biggest non-nuclear bomb against Iran if President Donald Trump should decide to renew combat in the war that has hit a deadlock.

Heavy fighting has been taking place in Yemen, as pro-government forces take on the country’s Houthi rebels, whose recent attacks on neighbouring Saudi Arabia have seized the world’s attention.
Yemen’s long civil war has become impossible to ignore, as the latest attacks by the Houthis, who are funded by Iran, play into the wider conflicts in the Middle East.
The Houthis took control of Yemen’s capital in 2014, ousting the country’s internationally-recognised government. A year later a Saudi-led coalition of Arab states intervened, trying to dislodge the Houthis. Despite years of devastating air strikes, that hasn’t worked.
Now Yemen’s Houthi fighters – already a threat to global shipping with attacks in the Red Sea – are an increasing threat to Saudi Arabia. And they provide leverage for their backers in Iran, Saudi’s regional rival.
The BBC has been given rare access to Yemen and the latest desert battlefields.

Ukraine is going down without aid. Either way Ukraine gave Russia hell no matter what. A lot of young Russian males have died in this war as well as Ukraine men. That part of the world will be depleted of repopulation for some time.

Definitely seems to be a huge flaw in the EU that in such a catastrophic and consequential decision that literally has a direct effect on the lives of an entire country and the existence a country and a decision in the eu that could mean life or death, victory or defeat can be derailed by one vote or one nation. Especially when we can see that nation is basically a ally of the enemy and the one responsible for the current holocaust similar actions against Ukrainians. 99% of eu can vote for good and salvation and just 1 traitor and member can vote no and single handedly help the enemy succeed and lead to death of a country. That's a fundamental flaw in the EU n makes it almost useless when there's so many members
