US approves first new Alzheimer’s drug in 20 years – BBC News

Published

on

The first new treatment for Alzheimer’s disease for nearly 20 years has been approved by regulators in the United States, paving the way for its use in the UK.

Aducanumab targets the underlying cause of Alzheimer’s, the most common form of dementia, rather than its symptoms.

Charities have welcomed the news of a new therapy for the condition.

But scientists are divided over its potential impact because of uncertainty over the trial results.

I can guarantee you that if that guy whoโ€™s against approving it was suddenly diagnosed with Alzheimers, he would be the first one reaching for it. It runs in my family and seeing it first hand I would rather die than have it.

Still get the same sad destiny, but just a little bit slower. Besides it will cost a lot money.
In other words, it's a crap. A lot mire research is needed. Probably beta amyloid is not the only problem.

My husband first experienced confusion and loss of memory in May of 2012 while undergoing rehab for alcoholism. Being home seemed to help him until 2017 when he gradually began experiencing Alzheimerโ€™s symptoms. He had four to five hours a day where he wanted to get a "greyhound" to "go home." Also, he thinks I am his sister and believes he has rented a car (he hasn't driven in 5 years). His personal hygiene was in the tank, it was necessary for him to change two to three times a day. Without long-term insurance for his care, it was becoming stressful to care for him. This year our family friend "Ken" introduced and started him on BRONGEE HERBAL SUPPLEMENTS for Alzheimer's and Dementia, 2 months into treatment he improved dramatically. At the end of the full treatment course, the disease is totally gone. No case of Alzheimerโ€™s, hallucination, forgetfulness, and others, heโ€™s strong again and able to go about daily activities. What's confusing is how can people who don't have amyloid plaques in their scans still be said to have Alzheimer's dementia if that's seen as the key biomarker. If in fact it isn't amyloid then how would the limited but clearly real success of this treatment be explained as it works by reducing the plaques.

I'm not following the critic… there is no evidence that the treatment is harmful in any capacity, but there IS evidence to suggest it combats the disease directly. The man's imaging results paired with improvement in his cognitive function show this. Yet the doctor is going to say he is "baffled" that it would get approved. Alzheimer's has had a death grip on every person who has ever gotten the diagnosis, and families are forced to watch their loved one literally fade to death. No matter what it is, there will always be opposition.

Anytime a cure is around the corner they suppress it and ban it. . It's Big Pharma. . This guy who is opposed to market access is very likely a paid shill sent to discredit the medication.

Yet again the FDA approved another experimental AZ drug called Lecanemab whereby thereโ€™s little to no positive benefits and has extremely high safety issues (i.e., brain swelling and brain bleeding) based on the CRTrial. It looks like these biopharm companies (Eisai and Biogen) had paid FDA authorities handsomely. ๐Ÿ˜ก

Tech Now’s Adrienne Murray visited Stockholm, Sweden, to explore a wave energy technology inspired by the way the human heart pumps blood.

Swedish company CorPower has developed large yellow buoys, anchored to the seabed, which generate electricity by harnessing the movement of ocean waves.

Private baby scan studios โ€˜a growing concernโ€™ – BBC News

Published

on

A BBC News investigation has uncovered failures in the diagnosis of serious medical issues during private baby scans.

More than 200 studios across the UK now sell ultrasound scans, with hundreds of thousands being carried out each year.

But the BBC has uncovered evidence of women not being told about serious conditions and abnormalities.

The Care Quality Commission says there is good quality care in the industry but it has a “growing concern”.

Weightlifting and strength exercises could help people live longer – BBC News

Published

on

Activities which strengthen the muscles – like weightlifting – should be part of an older person’s weekly exercise routine, a study suggests.

People doing both aerobic and muscle exercises were more likely to live longer than those who did just one or the other, US researchers found.

But you don’t have to go to the gym – carrying heavy shopping bags, digging in the garden and pilates all count.
