For those saying it wasn't mentioned much in news etc outside NI, thats true but even if it was I don't think many would be surprised, it seems to happen every year around 12th July, so hearing it happened earlier in the year doesn't really surprise us in the rest of the UK, just like it wouldn't surprise me if someone said the French are on strike or protesting.

That politician didn't SERIOUSLY say the riots were because of Sinn Fein breaking covid restrictions, right? There's literally no logical connection there.

"Northern Ireland fiscal deficit (also known as a subvention[1] or subsidy[2]) is the amount by which the public expenditure in Northern Ireland exceeds the tax revenue collected in Northern Ireland. The deficit typically runs at a rate of £10 billion per annum which is more than one third of Northern Ireland's annual fiscal budget. The size of the deficit has been seen by some commentators as a possible impediment to the future reunification of Ireland."

There's a lot of benefits you're taking for granted and will be throwing away. You'll be objectively worse off but I'm sure the EU to bail you out. I'm sure they will have some nice debt traps to offer like they did with Greece and the republic of Ireland. The UK has had nothing but the best interests of northern Ireland at heart. your misrepresentation is a result of your own local governments not speaking up…

I am a month late, but just now heard about this. What is happening to the world. Almost 3 billion dollars of damage here in the USA from riots over last summer, and more still happening, plus Portland. China gearing up to invade Taiwan, the Hong Kong riots, rioting in South America in various countries. The world is a scary fragile place.

It’s amazing to compare the level of violence by rioters in Northern Ireland compared to the level of violence used by the police in the USA. I’d be way more terrified facing the police in the US.

The problem is trying to hold onto NI when the rest of Ireland is independent of Westminister. There can only be one overlord, its either EU or Britain.
