With inflation running at a four-decade high, the Recession is now the ‘most likely outcome for the economy and I cannot imagine being a victim of circumstances. My portfolio suffered a big hit, holding it further won’t be any good. I've heard of people netting hundreds of thousands this red season. How can I ensure this?

2:48 It is misleading to present the April to June public sector pay increase as 9.6% without also mentioning how this figure was artificially high due to the one-off bonus payment made to NHS in June 2023 as part of the government's pay offer.

Governments have no control over inflation because it reflects the price of energy.
Inflation will increase in December because of energy scarcity.
BTW US inflation in 1980 was 19%.
So the party hasn’t even started yet.

    December 22, 2023 at 1:09 pm

Energy prices and leaving the EU are the main problems. Increasing taxation, which is gobbled up in government corruption, is not helping.

If you want a higher interest rate on savings then use the bank I use here in Turkey… 24%at the moment you can shift your money around online…
Have a great day everyone 👍

I disagree, you need to look at the FOMC minutes, core inflation is still sticky, we have rising oil and gas prices. Rates need to be held higher for longer.

    December 22, 2023 at 1:09 pm

I find it interesting that a month before people's electricity and gas bills shoot up again by £1000s our BS media states o yeah inflation is down. Complete rubbish.

  10. @peterfoley3043

    December 22, 2023 at 1:09 pm

Government has No policy to curb inflation deliberately so they can blame the Bank Of England…. Typical Conservative tactics….Core inflation unchanged !!!!!!

  11. @johnryder8464

    December 22, 2023 at 1:09 pm

These figures are bs and energy bills are going up again.

And yet the price at the pumps for fuel is creeping up again.

  14. @davothefirst9371

    December 22, 2023 at 1:09 pm

Put base rates up another 1%

  15. @antonymarjeram576

    December 22, 2023 at 1:09 pm

Now the government is saying when inflation goes bellow 5% they still need to raise interest rates because of wages so some inflation will still be difficult to get below 5%

  16. @englishgal234

    December 22, 2023 at 1:09 pm

All the best to the UK economy.

  17. @carleast

    December 22, 2023 at 1:09 pm

Has the world gone mad? Why is no one reporting on the month over month inflation figures? The last two months figures have been 0.2 and – 0.3. So if you annualised the last two months we're currently running at – 3% (deflation!). Plus the food inflation still looks horrendous but the month over month figure is 0.2% so 2.4% annualised.

Furthermore, I have no idea why wage inflation is included. It's this only item in the basket that actually improves people's standard of living rather than degrades it.

  18. @Corkedit

    December 22, 2023 at 1:09 pm

The fuel drop is the reason only… everything else is up….

  19. @brillo86

  24. @MrSize14feet

    December 22, 2023 at 1:09 pm

Rate of increase fell by 6.8%. PRICES ARE STIll GOING UP. WE NEED TO PRICES TO FAll BY 6.8%! Bailey and the rest of the Bank of England should not be paid at all until inflation returns to 2%.

  25. @andrewfallon2719

    December 22, 2023 at 1:09 pm

The real rate of inflation is still well over 10% so the cost of living crisis is still deepening.. they might lie about the figures but the reality for ordinary people is very different.

  26. @paulsaintclair9761

    December 22, 2023 at 1:09 pm

Inflation is highly toxic, we need to control this horror. Educated ppl understand these real life facts ….

  27. @markhughes7927

    December 22, 2023 at 1:09 pm

Fuel prices are rising again, food prices will never drop back down, the cost of living is still rising in the world where people live, not the pantomime world of government
