We just have to accept that the high street is dead. Bricks and mortar cannot possibly compete with online souces. And when you add in the Chinese setting up with uk warehouses?

There are no good shops left on the high streets all you have is barbers bail bars takeaways and the antisocial behavior towards shop staff isn't helping

That's what happens when the government gives all the money we DON'T have to Zelensky's money laundering machine and open the border wide open.

With regard to people spending more on luxury holidays. One would be a fool to keep the money in a bank with this level of inflation. I chose to renovate my house and some friends have done cruises and safaris. If you work in an industry where redundancy may soon loom, one doesn't want to be unable to get the benefits you've spent the last fifty years paying into because your savings are over £10,000.
Perhaps changing the benefit system to one where the amount one has paid in indicates how much one receives or even base it on the number of payments. That would cut out a lot of the idle, ne'er-do-wells, currently clogging the high streets of this benighted country.

I'm a Brit living in Germany where the High Streets are thriving. On a recent trip to the UK, I saw the problems first hand. One of the worst things was card-payments for car parks and both my German bank cards being rejected, meaning that I couldn't even park. When I was able to pay cash to park I found the same card-payment problem in shops and cafes/bars where they would not accept cash and my cards were once again rejected. Apparently, many EU citizens have had the same problems with card payments which is actually putting them off visiting the UK at all!

Lazy shopping.. they will come back when they start realising there being ripped off by the supermarkets and online fad will fade ,, it's not cheap, anti social and in general you don't find out what crap you've bought till you open the box. Stopped buying online ages back.. you need to feel the quality and not the width.

Watch as Will Kensington expresses concern about the state of the UK, arguing that Downing Street is no longer a place of power but has instead become Britain’s most expensive Airbnb.

This comes as Andy Burnham is set to become the UK’s seventh Prime Minister in a decade, with seemingly no one challenging the “King of the North” for the country’s top job.
