Presidents Macron and Putin discuss “how to avoid war” in Ukraine – BBC News
The French President Emmanuel Macron expressed hope that war could be avoided over Ukraine as he met the Russian leader Vladimir Putin in Moscow.
World leaders are stepping up efforts to reduce tensions over Ukraine with fears of a Russian invasion. Around 100,000 Russian troops have been moved close to the country’s border.
President Putin is demanding that Ukraine does not join the NATO military alliance which he says is a threat to Russian security.
Huw Edwards presents BBC News at Ten reporting by Steve Rosenberg in Moscow and Sarah Smith in Washington.

While I sympathize with Ukraine, I have to agree that Russia is the victim here. An enemy moving next door is an act of aggression. Driven by the ideology of American exceptionalism, NATO is completely under American influence and has been the vehicle America uses to advance its interests (aka what America wants America gets). To make matters worse, America is known for using its alliances to advance American corporate interests, undermine the members' sovereignty, overthrow leaders who don't put American interests above their own national interests and differ on political ideology. If I was Putin, America sounds like a colonial power in NATO disguise and is a legitimate threat to Russia's security interest. When Russia tried to put a base in Cuba, America went ballistic (literally aka Cuban Missile Crisis), and the threat of having a nation that is so ideologically different from America in Cuba created a real crisis. If America did not allow any military alliance between Russia and Cuba why should Russia allow NATO's military in Ukraine?

You cannot negotiate with Russia. Russia will take everything they can get, regroup, then take more, then take more, then take more. This is their current goal. Russia wants to have access to all the borders of Europe so they can control all the waters, all the shipping and have great launching points. Macron already knows Zelensky will not negotiate. Zelensky has experience with Russia and knows the drill. If Macron wants to negotiate with Russia maybe he could offer to cede portions of France, Germany and Italy to Russia. This may appease Russia for a while until they are ready to go again. Get smart. Russia wants it all.
