Gaza: Shell hits UN shelter ‘killing 15 & injuring over 200 – BBC News

Christopher Gunness, UN spokesman, spoke to BBC News from Jerusalem with the latest information. At least 15 people have been killed and more than 200 injured when a UN-run school used as a shelter in Gaza was shelled, the Gaza health ministry says. Hundreds of Palestinians were in the school in Beit Hanoun, fleeing heavy fighting in the area. It is the fourth time that a UN facility has been hit in Israel’s offensive, which it launched on 8 July with the declared objective of stopping Hamas militant rocket fire.

The US said it has hit “dozens” of Iranian military targets in overnight attacks, in response to Iran hitting commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
The military said it struck “air-defense systems, coastal radar sites, missile and drone capabilities, and small boats”, using aircraft, ships, and drones – including “one-way attack sea drones for the first time”.
“The Strait of Hormuz is a vital maritime corridor for global trade,” the US military said. “Iran does not control it”.
In response, Iran said it targeted US bases in Jordan, Bahrain, and Kuwait and also radar systems in Oman.

President Donald Trump has said the US is reinstating a naval blockade of Iranian ports and will impose a 20% charge on all cargo shipped through the Strait of Hormuz following days of escalating strikes between the two countries.
He said this would stop “Iran’s ships or customers” from entering or leaving the key oil shipping route, but “all other countries will have fair and open use of the Strait”.
Iran’s foreign minister later said whoever provides safe passage “should be compensated for this service”, but Iran would remain the strait’s “GUARDIAN” – using Trump’s word.
Tehran and Washington clashed over the strait’s control after exchanging strikes in the region overnight and on Monday.
The US said it carried out strikes against military targets in Iran, targeting air defence systems, coastal radars, and missile and drone sites. Iran said it responded by striking US military bases in Kuwait, Jordan and Bahrain, and radars in Oman.

Explosions have been heard near two Iranian port cities, Bandar Abbas and Bushehr, state media has reported.
It comes after another night of strikes between the US and Iran, with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps saying it hit two UAE tankers in the Strait of Hormuz and targeted US facilities in Jordan and Bahrain.
The UAE called the attack “brazen”, adding that an Indian crew member was killed and eight others were injured.
Meanwhile, the US military says it completed strikes on targets aimed at degrading “Iran’s ability to attack commercial shipping” – Iranian state media reports three people were killed.

The US military said it was carrying out a new wave of strikes on targets in Iran. It said the aim of the attacks was to degrade Iran’s ability to attack shipping in the strait of Hormuz. It came ass the US Navy resumed its blockade of Iran’s ports.
Iran said that control of the strait of Hormuz was required for its national security and it will exercise sovereignty over the key shipping lane, whatever the cost.
President Trump announced that he was scrapping a plan he had announced a day earlier, for placing a 20% toll or tariff on all cargos passing through the strait of Hormuz.

In a normal conflict civilians are removed from the battle. This allows for humanitarian aid to be set up away from the conflict. He did say this was not possible. I have not found out the reason why because Civilians need to leave the area. Hamas is also targeting structures inside Gaza with rockets and mortars.

Israel is defending itself, the civilian victims are the outcome of the merciless tactics of HAMAS of using civilian as human shields and using civilian facilities such as hospitals and schools as launching sites for their missiles that, by the way, if the IRON DOME does not block them there would be more civilian victims in Israel than Gaza because missiles thrown by palestinians are deliberated aimed to the israelis cities to kill women and children. What happens to Palestinians and Palestine during periods of inactivity when rockets aren't firing at Israel? Same shit sandwich as the rest of the time. The border crossings and road blocks manned by soldiers who treat any Palestinians with contempt and sometimes violence. Palestinian 'men' some as young as 13 or 14 still get arrested and taken in in massive fishing expeditions to net Hamas activists – and what happens to Palestinian prisoners in Israeli detention? What in any civilised nation would be described as torture – stress positions for hours or days at a time (the most common being the 'banana' position), which leave the person with spinal problems for years after, sometimes for life.
And the settlements continue – once in a while Israel makes a show of stopping them – on one occasion actually removing some – but then elsewhere more are being built – once the world isn't watching closely in the wake of yet another period of wholescale slaughter, they get right back to it.
And the bull dozers continue to knock down Palestinian homes that the state claim are illegal.
And every now and then a sniper takes out an innocent civilian – a child playing on their own maybe,
I remember years ago there was a story about one of the regular fishing expeditions where several hundred men of various ages had been arrested and the prisoner numbers were written on their forearms. It was a surreal image – the Israeli guards, with their Palestinian prisoners, all sporting their numbers on their arms.
Daily humiliations and degradation.
