The Ukrainian refugees risking their lives by returning home – BBC News
Millions of Ukrainians fled their country after Russia’s invasion in February 2022.
Now many are returning to their homes in the east of the country, close to frontline fighting, against official advice.
Many say they are homesick and are returning with their children to rebuild their lives, despite the continuing threat of attack by Russian forces.
Reeta Chakrabarti presents BBC News at Ten reporting by James Waterhouse, who travelled with returning refugees to the city of Pokrovsk in the Donetsk region.

Americans react to President Donald Trump’s feud with Pope Leo XIV | BBC News
Americans are reacting to President Donald Trump’s escalating feud with Pope Leo XIV and the backlash surrounding an AI-generated image depicting the president as a Jesus-like figure, which has since been deleted.
On Monday, Trump posted a lengthy Truth Social message attacking the pontiff, who has been a vocal critic of the US and Israeli military operations in Iran.
He criticised the Pope, calling him “weak on crime” and “terrible for foreign policy”.
The Pope said on Monday that he has “no fear” of the Trump administration or “speaking out loudly of the message of the Gospel, which is what I believe I am here to do”.

It seems like Ukrainian women are very welcomed in Europe but also places like Canada, but the same refugees from the Middle East were much less… how hypocrits are we??? Now …I had 2 friends and one of my neighbour who opened their doors to a Ukrainian women. 2 of them divorced (one of my friend and my neighbour) their wives and the other friend hasn’t had sex with his own wife for 5 months… guess why??? Apparently, one of my colleague at work too is about to let his Danish fiancée off … just to replace her with a “beautiful” Ukrainian!!! … well it is good we Europeans opened our doors to Ukrainians… some of us are gonna make divorce lawyers happy apparently

Only the people who can't make it or presumedly running out of money are returning. Those that can find jobs or survive will stay. It is Gothic War II especially if this last for a while. Same reason eastern europeans migrating westward. As long as they can find jobs, life is better there than in a war zone.

I wish Ukrainians treated Polish people with the same kindness during WW2. Unfortunately they didn’t and they call the people of Poland their brothers.. why? Because now they need help. Not a fan of Ukrainian people. Two faced selfish “me me me.. give give give”. It is incredible how Poland swallowed their pride and helped them after Wołyń.

8,3 million refugees left Ukraine since feb 2022, around 6,2 million are still abroad while more then a million returned to the country. Which country host the largest number of refugees from Ukraine, around 2,7 million? Second is Germany with 1,5 million refugees.

This is very sad indeed. Ukraine are tired to be refugees and tired of running. I think its a best thing for these Ukrainians to return and risk everthing even death. Being refugees in other countries is worst than die in your country. God protect them from this horror war.

I was also a refugee with two kids and i fully understand that woman's decision. We stayed in Poland for 10 months ( we'll never forget the kindness of polish people), while my husband and elder son were in Ukraine. What a happy event it was when we came back home! I remember the words of my granny who had a newborn baby in 1944 when Germans occupied her village:" I will not live my home. If it's time for us to die, we'll die here, at home". It's just my decision and my point of view, i don't push anyone to come back home. Thank you all guys for your support

What about Ukrainian people posting stories on social media all around the world. They are living a luxury life clubs hotel restaurants. They buy expensive bags clothes cars. How is it possible if they lost everything because of the war? All they need is a luxury life all the time they love money only and you are thinking they are poor. They spend 1000 euro daily and they do not help their own people.

Western "Media Vultures" make a lucrative living by feeding on Ukraine soldiers killed in battle. NATO weapon-manufacturers make huge profits from weapons sales to Ukraine. Ultimately, Ukraine will be reduced to a "Scrap Metal Yard".

They will have limited health infrastructure when they return to their original part of Ukraine. Ukraine is not part of the EU and there is limited ways to traverse Europe thereby in terms of resources and services. Parts of Ukraine use hospital trains and in India those trains have scope to get operations done if need be. Hospital trains cannot do everything however and so things like (CT/MRI, etc.) scans (for high risk groups like children or those adults with injury or people beyond their BMI) getting those done in Europe were needs for health treatments are preventable or scalable to the limited Ukraine resources and services would be a time saving strategy instead of going all the way back into europe with a subsequent health problem leater since returnin to Ukraine. For those people retruning to Ukraine, they might want to check if there is some sort of modern equivalent to what the British Isles had in the style of an "E111 form" which travel and even tourism could use for health. Prepping paperwork is key. Those in he workplace also have an avenue for their audit trail. If there are thousands returning, it would makes sense to have the European countries keep track of them (keepng in touch) by giving say ten of them (as peers) a used market laptop with linux_simpleSamlPhpOauth2OIDC_OpenID_OIDF on it to log everybody voluntarily. A QuadcoreCPU_RAM8GB would do it running Debian64Bit_with_KDEApps_and_Rtl2832U_LimeSuiteSDR.
My comment has no hate in it and I do no harm. I am not appalled or afraid, boasting or envying or complaining… Just saying. Psalms23: Giving thanks and praise to the Lord and peace and love. Also, I'd say Matthew6.

They're either insane or it's not as bad as we've been led to believe. They don't look insane to me. Some Ukrainian refugees in the UK have returned to Ukraine for holidays and exams.
UK councils are spending 100s of millions of pounds building/renovating houses for Ukrainians despite the fact that they were brought to the UK under the, albeit tacit, condition that they wouldn't be housed by the UK authorities or at tax payers' expense. I knew that was a lie by omission as soon as I heard it. Damn bleeding heart liberals and their fickle, shallow current-thing-ism.
Meanwhile 100s of thousands of British people, including families, are languishing in unsuitable accommodations. There's no magic money tree or outpouring of Bleeding-Hearts' charity for them! Our friends have a 16 Y/O boy, an autistic 13 Y/O boy and an 8 Y/O girl and they have only recently been moved out of a poky 2-bed house into a 3-bed, and that was only after they got the local MP involved to help them. Yet, if you're a Ukrainian 'refugee', you get a posh house built just for you ASAP. There's something VERY wrong with this country.

I think there are 3 other reasons, one refugee status, two visas, and 3 benefits. In the end it was cheaper to come home because they couldn't support themselves earning Ukrainian salaries and paying european prices.
