The lessons were not learned from the Holocaust, that any group that is dehumanised and a group that sees themselves as chosen people will eventually seek to subjugate and enslave 'The other'. Look at the Palestinians: They are dehumanised, brutalised daily, put into ghettos, they are shown to be lesser humans in Israeli textbooks, their villages destroyed, children kidnapped and so and so on.

I don't think that presentation does anyone any favours at all.
The real pictures filmed at the time are necessary. Not this smoothed over animated eye candy.
Actual images of the pulldozers bushing biles of podies into bits.
Without blurred or pixelated or oral or writings censorship. Get real.

  17. @public.public

How can you spend years paying off your student loan and still owe more than you borrowed?

Ten years ago, the first Plan 2 borrowers started repaying their student loans. Since then, graduates who left university with similar debts have found themselves on very different financial paths.

The amount you earn affects how much you repay, how much interest builds up and whether you’ll ever clear your balance. BBC Education Correspondent Hazel Shearing investigates why so many graduates are frustrated with the system and what their student loan really means for their future.

Ex-gang boss Duane “Keffe D” Davis sentenced for orchestrating Tupac Shakur’s murder | BBC News

Published

on

Former gang boss Duane “Keffe D” Davis has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for orchestrating the murder of rapper Tupac Shakur in a drive-by shooting in 1996.

The key evidence in the case were Davis’ own words, in which he repeatedly and publicly acknowledged being inside the white Cadillac from where the deadly shots were fired.

A jury found him guilty in September of one count of murder with a deadly weapon. Davis has said he will appeal the verdict.

His conviction was the first in a cold case that has intrigued hip-hop fans for nearly 30 years.

Pope Leo has lung cancer – Vatican reveals diagnosis and details of surgery | BBC News

Published

on

Pope Leo XIV has been diagnosed with lung cancer and has had surgery to remove a lower lobe of his right lung, the Vatican has said in a medical bulletin.

The 71-year-old underwent a 90 minute operation on Tuesday at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital and was subsequently diagnosed with lung adenocarcinoma.

The lump was first detected during what the Vatican has described as “routine checks”.

Earlier, large crowds gathered outside the hospital to greet the Pope, with some waiting for several hours. They cheered greetings and well wishes as he passed, while he waved and smiled back through the lowered back window of his car.
He was then met by staff on the hospital steps. “I’m sorry,” one of them commiserated, to which the Pope gave a smile and a shrug. “We’re here for you,” he was assured.

In its statement, the Vatican said the whole lower lobe of the Pope’s right lung was removed “to ensure the procedure was radical”.

A Vatican source told Agence France-Presse news agency that further tests are being carried out to see if there was any sign the cancer had spread.

Leo XIV announced news of his operation to the world on Sunday, without at that time confirming that he was suffering from cancer. Speaking from the balcony in St Peter’s Square after delivering the traditional Angelus blessing, he said the nodule, or growth, on his lung was “contained” and had been found “at a very early stage”, but that doctors had advised him to have it removed.

Nodules are quite common and not necessarily cancerous, but after it was examined the medical team confirmed it was pulmonary adenocarcinoma, “as suspected by pre-operative tests”, the Vatican said. It said that the pontiff, who is generally thought to be fit, had no symptoms of infection or illness.

Sophie Raworth presents BBC News at Ten reporting by Sarah Rainsford at the Vatican.
