Tens of thousands of people have crossed from Morocco into the Spanish territory of Ceuta in North Africa – many of them swimming or wading around the border fence. Spanish authorities say dozens of people died trying make the journey – either by drowning or being crushed.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has described the situation as an “attack”, blaming human traffickers for deceiving young people. The prime minister vowed to return all illegal migrants to Morocco as soon as possible. Many thousands have already left voluntarily.

Several European leaders have expressed concern, with some promising to tighten border controls. Italy’s right-wing Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni described the images from Ceuta as “shocking”, and said that “uncontrolled immigration” was a security threat to Europe.

We ask the BBC’s southern Europe correspondent Sarah Rainsford what caused the sudden rush of migrants, and what will happen to them now.

Increasingly, the journey starts with a squat silver floor robot gliding beneath a storage rack, lifting a shelf and carrying it across a warehouse to a waiting worker.

At Geek+’s factory in the eastern Chinese city of Hefei, fleets of the robots are built and tested before being shipped to warehouses around the world.

Some of Britain’s biggest retailers – including Tesco, Asda and Next – now use the company’s technology.

Donald Trump secretly switched planes when he was returning from a Nato meeting last month in order to avoid a threat to his life from Iran, US media has reported.

The president boarded Air Force One in Ankara, Turkey, on 8 July before being transported to another aircraft with the help of a catering truck, the Washington Post said.

He was then seen disembarking Air Force One in the UK, before boarding his newer, Qatari-gifted jet and returning to the US.
Trump spoke to journalists during his flight to the US but did not say whether he had been moved to a different plane.

Rescue workers in Colombia are still searching for survivors after one of the worst earthquakes to hit the country in years. More than 200 people are confirmed dead, and hundreds more are injured.

One of the worst-affected cities is Cali which, just last week, hosted the inauguration of newly-elected President Abelardo de la Espriella.

A right-wing populist who was endorsed by US President Donald Trump, Mr de la Espriella has promised to crack down on the drug gangs and armed rebel groups – including the National Liberation Army (ELN) and dissident factions of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (Farc). It appears those priorities will now be delayed while the new government responds to the earthquake.

We speak to BBC Mundo’s William Marquez, who is Colombian, about the scale of the devastation, and how the country’s ongoing issues with violence could complicate the disaster response.

On Wednesday, parts of Europe will be plunged into daytime darkness as the moon passes in front of the sun, temporarily blocking its light and casting a shadow across the continent.

The path of total eclipse begins at the tip of Siberia before curving round the Arctic Ocean and crossing parts of Greenland and Iceland.

It then proceeds across a stretch of the northern Atlantic Ocean before reaching northern Spain and finishing in the Mediterranean. Other parts of Europe will see a partial eclipse.

It is only expected to last a couple of minutes for people who watch it, but some people have crossed continents to witness it.
