Fifa boss Gianni Infantino denies claims Uefa paid off alleged ‘lover’ | BBC News

Published

on

Fifa president Gianni Infantino’s alleged lover received a six-figure severance payment from Uefa while he was the organisation’s general secretary, according to a Daily Telegraph investigation.

The Telegraph reported that the woman had an alleged relationship with Infantino, who is married, during his time at European football’s governing body.

A spokesman for Infantino said he “strongly denies these categorically untrue allegations”.

The claims come as Infantino fights for his future as Fifa president following his abandoned plans to sell stakes in the World Cup to private investors.

The Ukrainian president said strikes in Zaporizhzhia – which killed at least six and injured at least 19 – involved ballistic missiles from Russia’s ally.

In Voronezh, in southern Russia, warehouses belonging to the online retailer, Wildberries, were hit by Ukraine. The company, known as Russia’s Amazon, has been repeatedly targeted in recent weeks.

One child was among the victims in Tartarstan, with 75 more people injured, Russian authorities said. It is one of the deadliest single attacks on Russia since the start of Moscow’s full-scale war in Ukraine.

Kyiv has not yet commented on the strike on the city of Nizhnekamsk, which is more than 1,100 kilometres (680m) from the Ukrainian border.

Ukraine’s Armed Forces confirmed Nizhnekamsk’s Tanevo oil refinery had been hit, while Ukrainian defence technology manufacturer FirePoint said its FP-1 drones had been used in the attack.

AI goes on a hacking spree | The Global Story

Published

on

In the last few weeks, three separate tech companies – OpenAI, Anthropic, and Meta – have all disclosed that their AI models went rogue and hacked into another company during controlled cyber-security tests.

The revelations have raised big questions about whether artificial intelligence is becoming more autonomous and unpredictable.

OpenAI has said it accepts responsibility for the hacking incident – and is working with Hugging Face to avoid similar incidents while continuing to improve testing and monitoring systems. OpenAI also says its conducting a review with external advisors.

As for Anthropic – it says it’s continuing to work with the UK AI security institute to obtain more details about the most recent incident and conduct its own investigation.

And a spokesperson for Meta told the BBC that it was also investigating its hack, which it said had been caused by a “misconfiguration” by its independent tester.

The Global Story’s Asma Khalid is joined by Marc Cieslak, the BBC’s first ever AI correspondent, to unpack how these breaches were possible and how worried we should be.
