Tucked in south-western Ukraine, Odesa is the country’s third largest city.

It was an economic powerhouse before the war. Now that Russia occupies the majority of Ukraine’s coastline, the region has become even more vital.

But residents continue to go about their daily lives.

For 40 years, the identity of a tiny seaweed living in a secret underwater world has been a mystery. But a team of scientific divers exploring the waters off south Cornwall have made a breakthrough.

They discovered a seaweed that is now known to be an entirely new species to science. The discovery is so new, it doesn’t have a common name yet, so you are being invited to make suggestions.

Now scientifically documented for the first time globally, and shared exclusively with the BBC, and has joined the Natural History Museum’s official collection. We’ve been to under-explored and well-known marine habitats in Cornwall to find out more.

In the last two months, dozens of people have been killed across the region in clashes between security officials and protesters from the group Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC). Pakistan-administered Kashmir is home to about 4.5 million people, and there are currently elections taking place there.

Protesters from the JAAC say the demonstrations are about their rights, with concerns including electricity prices, education and health care. An agreement signed with the Pakistan and PAK governments back in October was meant to help. The JAAC says it’s not been implemented.

The local government disagrees. They say the group is armed and that this is about disrupting the ongoing polls. And they are not willing to let the protesters march to the regional capital, Muzaffarabad.

The BBC is the first media organisation to gain access to Rawalakot and speak to those at the heart of the protests.

Two years to the day after resigning as prime minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina has delivered an address vowing to return home from exile in India.

The former leader was ousted amid mass protests in 2024, and subsequently sentenced to death in absentia for crimes against humanity. A Bangladeshi court ruled that she had authorised security forces to use “lethal weapons” against protestors. The United Nations has said up to 1,400 people were killed during the unrest.

After her speech, the Bangladeshi Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a statement saying it was “outraged” that Ms Hasina was “allowed … to engage in live interaction with the media in New Delhi, where she and her henchmen launched venomous vitriol against the State of Bangladesh and her people.”

We ask the BBC’s South Asia specialist Anbarasan Ethirajan why Ms Hasina wants to return to Bangladesh now, and what could happen if she does.

Plus, we discuss how the new government of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman – which came to power in the country’s first elections since Ms Hasina’s ousting – has performed in its first six months, and the current state of Dhaka’s relations with India, Pakistan and China.
