This is an INSULT to survivors

Published

A sexual abuse survivor has told GB News how she feels “insulted” after the Home Office issued guidance to asylum seekers on how “not to rape women.”

It is just one of the resources available in a collection titled: “Understanding behaviours and expectations in the UK: a guide for asylum seekers”.

Posters and information on rape, the age of consent and child abuse are among the guides to help asylum seekers “understand what is expected when living in the UK”.

The guidance highlights child rape is illegal “even if they look older” or if “it is allowed in another country”.

Speaking to GB News, Kelly Lees said sexual abuse survivors like herself were “at the bottom of the pile,” saying: “This is an insult to women and children. This is an insult to survivors. It seems to me this country is a laughing stock.”

A Home Office spokesperson told GB News: “We expect everyone who comes to the UK to abide by our laws.

“If they do not, they will face consequences, including the refusal of their asylum claim and removal from the UK.

“Returns of failed asylum seekers have reached their highest level since 2010 under this Government.”

Broadcaster Nina Myskow has defended the Government after the Home Office pulished a document that tells migrants “how to not rape women and children.”

Speaking on GB News, Nina said: “I sit here week after week, being told that these are men that come from a different culture to ours, different cultures, and they don’t understand how women should be treated. Well, this is the Home Office recognising that.

“You can’t have it both ways. You can’t say they’re from a different culture and at the same time blame the government for not doing anything about it.”

A Home Office spokesperson told GB News: “We expect everyone who comes to the UK to abide by our laws.

“If they do not, they will face consequences, including the refusal of their asylum claim and removal from the UK.
