Ahh…here is a piece of long lost footage. In this repeating video clip, Chris Hitt does what he calls “The GeekWare Walk.” What is a GeekWare walk, you might ask? Well, this involves a long explanation of his history and I’ll try and make it as simple and short as possible. “The Geek” was Chris Hitt’s first computer handle. He started using it in the mid 1980s. What is a computer handle? Well a handle is just a nickname. It is what we might call today a username. Handles were used on computer bulletin board systems which were connected via phone lines and modem devices to the end user. Chris Hitt used other handles later like the Arch-Angel and the Silent Knight but you get the general idea. So how did a walk evolve out of his username, you ask? Well, his cough, gasp, choke, wheeze friends pointed out to him as a teenager that he had an odd way of walking where his knees were pointed inwards as he was walking. I doubt he does that today, but maybe there is a small possibility that he still walks like that, I don’t know, but I doubt it. GeekWare is a reference to Hitt’s computer programming, video game and movie-making efforts. Basically GeekWare was kind of a nickname for his software-related efforts. I think if Chris Hitt could have started a software company as a teenager, he would have named it GeekWare and then later ArchWare, and other such things depending on the handle he was using. But anyway, in usual Chris Hitt fashion, with regards to his walking style, Chris chose to make a joke out of something that was part of his life and thus, the name “GeekWare Walk” was born. This video was filmed in the “boonies” out between Bonita and Jamul, an area known as Proctor Valley. That area is filled with homes today that developers built, there’s no more wilderness in that location anymore. Sad, but true. Enjoy this video for whatever entertainment value you feel that it’s worth. This YouTube channel was established to chronicle the people, songs and events related to Chris Hitt’s band known as “Will Power” which existed during the late 80s and early 90s. Will Power was a Heavy Metal band in the Coronado/San Diego area which tried to make it but couldn’t. Chris Hitt was the lead singer, Marcus Fowler was the guitarist and Joseph Robinson played drums. This recording came from a collection of audio cassettes, photos and video cassettes that I purchased from Chris Hitt and Marcus Fowler in 1989 when they were selling me their pictures, video tapes and audio tapes related to their band. Anyway, this stuff is all ancient history now, but it’s all a part of the story back then which was the Heavy Metal band known as Will Power!
