What the 2026 Global Talent Trends Report Reveals About a Workforce in Crisis with Kate Bravery

At the center of this episode is a hard truth: work is no longer working for a lot of people. Kate shares that only 44% of employees in this year’s study say they are thriving, the lowest level Mercer has seen in more than a decade. Should USDA Crop Progress Reports Be Adjusted for Earlier Planting Trends?
With the U.S. corn and soybean growing season underway, CEO Dr. Jan Dutton walks through an analysis of how percent planted figures can be adjusted to account for the trend toward earlier planting each year.
The current USDA planted progress data for soybeans indicates that, relative to all prior years, soybeans have been planted earlier than ever before. This finding has been covered by agricultural news outlets, with discussion focused on what it may mean for the soybean crop.
However, when a trend-corrected version is applied, soybean planting progress falls within the normal range. After adjusting for the long-term trend, the current season reflects a typical year for soybean planted progress.
