More Chinese Z-10MEs, J-10Cs, & J-35 for Pakistan: SIPRI Report?
In this programme, Islamabad Files analysed the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) has just released its latest major report – “Trends in International Arms Transfers – 2025”, on 9 March 2026. Report suggest that Global arms transfers increased by 9.2% during 2021–2025, the sharpest rise since 2011–2015.
Islamabad Files also look into the US maintenance as the (with 27% exports surge during last five years and overall 42% rise) leadsling global arms exporter, followed by France, Russia, Germany, and China, while Ukraine, India, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Pakistan are the top importers. Where Pakistan’s imports surged by 66%, making it the 5th-largest arms importer, with China supplying around 80% of its weapons.
Meanwhile, Islamabad Files also analysed the fact, that Russia’s exports collapsed by 64%, reflecting shrinking markets and shifting alliances. India is increasingly pivoting from Russian arms to Western systems, especially from France, the US, and Israel, as it diversifies its defense procurement. The trend highlights a major geopolitical shift in the global arms market and intensifying regional military competition.
