US and Israel launch attack on Iran, as Trump says ‘major combat operations’ under way | BBC News
Israel and the US have launched an attack on Iran, with explosions reported in five cities including the capital, Tehran.
President Donald Trump confirmed that the US has launched “major combat operations” in Iran, while Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz says his country launched a “pre-emptive” strike on Tehran.
The US president posted an eight-minute video on his social media platform, Truth Social claiming that Iran, “attempted to rebuild their nuclear program and to continue developing long range missiles that can now threaten our very good friends and allies in Europe, our troops stationed overseas and could soon reach the American homeland.”
A state of emergency has also been declared in Israel in anticipation of retaliatory strikes.
