Protests have been taking place in several Ukrainian cities against President Volodymyr Zelensky’s surprise dismissal of popular Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov.

A crowd of people – mostly young – gathered in Kyiv on Thursday morning, holding up signs reading “Hands off Fedorov” and “Stop sabotaging victory!” and chanting “Shame!”.

Zelensky’s decision has causing significant upset among commentators and the military as well as parts of civil society.

The rumours that the end of Fedorov’s tenure was related to tensions between him and Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi were all but confirmed by Fedorov himself and Zelensky.

Andrew and Tristan Tate have been arrested in the US after British prosecutors authorised 38 new charges, taking the total number they face in the UK to 59.

Andrew Tate now faces 42 charges, including further counts of rape, sex trafficking and offences relating to indecent images of a child. Tristan Tate faces 17 charges, including rape and trafficking offences.

The brothers deny all allegations. Prosecutors have begun legal proceedings to extradite the pair, who are dual British-US citizens, to the UK.

Thousands of young Indians have marched through the streets of Delhi, in a protest called by the Cockroach Janta Party – a new, fast-growing political movement. CJP has been holding demonstrations calling for education reforms, after a scandal involving the leak of medical school entrance exams.

The cockroach party was started this year as a piece of online satire, by recent graduate Abhijeet Dipke. It was a response to comments by Indian Chief Justice Surya Kant, who allegedly compared unemployed youth to cockroaches and parasites. He later said he was referring only to people with “fake and bogus degrees”. But Mr Dipke’s CJP has now gained millions of followers – many of them young people frustrated by a lack of economic opportunity.

We ask the BBC’s Anbarasan Ethirajan how great a challenge the Cockroach Janta Party could pose to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the ruling BJP. Plus, we’ll find out how the ‘cockroach’ movement fits into the broader trend of “Gen Z” protests in Nepal, Bangladehs, and Sri Lanka.

The surprise removal by Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky’s of the popular Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov has caused an outburst of anger and mass protests.

A crowd of mostly young people gathered in Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities holding banners reading “Hands off Fedorov” and “Stop sabotaging victory!” and chanting “Shame!”.

Fedorov, who was appointed in January, is seen as the architect of the recent success of Ukraine in carrying out drone attacks deep inside Russia.

Zelensky has put forward Major General Yevhenii Khmara, the acting head of the Security Service, as acting defence minister.

Zelensky said: “Khmara has gained extensive and, in many respects, unprecedented experience with technological combat operations.”

Rumours that Fedorov’s removal was related to tensions between him and Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi were all but confirmed by both Fedorov and Zelensky.

Fedorov said he had suggested to Zelensky that Syrskyi and Chief of the General Staff Andrii Hnatov should be replaced.

Zelensky said that conflict between the General Staff and the defence ministry had been “systemic” and said that Syrskyi and Fedorov would only work together with his mediation.
