Is Trump’s ‘armada’ going to attack Iran? | Global News Podcast
The Trump administration says a US aircraft carrier- the USS Abraham Lincoln- and supporting warships have arrived in the Middle East, expanding President Donald Trump’s capabilities to defend US forces or take military action against Iran.
The US fleet including several guided missile destroyers are reported to be in striking range of Iranian territory.
Since the crackdown began on protestors by the Iranian regime, President Trump has given mixed signals on intervention, but is now warning of a “big armada next to Iran. Bigger than Venezuela.”
We speak to the BBC’s Defence Correspondent Jonathan Beale about what we know about US military capabilities in the region and what could happen next.

A 26-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of Ann Widdecombe.
Devon and Cornwall Police say a white British male is in custody after the 78-year-old was found at her home on Thursday with serious injuries.
The incident is not being treated as terrorism and police say there is “no information” to suggest it was politically motivated.

Singer Bonnie Tyler has died aged 75.
A statement on her official website said: “Bonnie’s family and team are heartbroken to announce that Bonnie unexpectedly passed away last night in hospital in Portugal as a result of the illness that she was being treated for.”
The Welsh singer was known for hits such as Holding Out for a Hero and Total Eclipse of the Heart.
