😷COVID CHAOS! Daniel Dubois vs Joe Joyce | Full Fight | BRITISH Heavyweight Title | 28/11/2020

Published

on

On 7 February 2020, a press release came out to officially announce Joyce vs. Daniel Dubois (15–0, 14 KOs). The fight was scheduled to take place on 11 April at The O2 Arena in London, live on BT Sport Box Office.

Dubois would be defending his British, Commonwealth, WBC Silver and WBO International titles and Joyce would be defending his WBA Gold title. The fight was billed as “Seek & Destroy”. The fight was promoted by Frank Warren’s Queensberry Promotions.

Days after the fight was announced, Joyce split with trainer Adam Booth. He had reportedly signed with his former trainer Ismael Salas and headed to Las Vegas to train at the UFC Training Center. The split with Booth was amicable, according to Joyce and his manager Sam Jones. Salas became Joyce’s fourth trainer in only his eleventh professional fight. On 20 February, it was confirmed the vacant European heavyweight title would be at stake.

On 12 March, Frank Warren stated the fight was still scheduled to take place despite the coronavirus concerns and everything would be closely monitored. On 26 March, the BBBofC had cancelled all UK boxing events and lockdown in the UK was also confirmed. The fight was pushed back to 11 July 2024. Frank Warren did not want the fight to take place behind closed doors.

On 6 October, Warren announced the fight would take place on BT Sports, without pay-per-view, which was considered a huge reversal, on 28 November at Church House in London. The fight billing changed to “At Last” after being rescheduled three times. Prior to the fight, the bookmakers had Joyce the underdog heading in. Joyce felt insulted and overlooked. Majority bookmakers also had the fight expected to not go the distance.

The fight was looked at a genuine 50–50, with many boxing pundits and boxers unable to separate the two.
Only two days before the fight, Joyce team hit a setback as trainer Salas tested positive for Covid upon arriving at the hotel in London. The fight was still scheduled to go ahead with Steve Broughton brought in Joyce’s corner alongside Jimmy Tibbs.

Dubois weighed 244.4 pounds. Joyce came in heavier at 258.9 pounds

😡”You got any EXCUSES tonight, Roy⁉️” Tarver avenges his defeat to Jones Jr #OnThisDay #Boxing

😡”You got any EXCUSES tonight, Roy⁉️”

22 years ago today, one punch from Antonio Tarver completely altered the boxing landscape.
Roy Jones Jr was ‘THE MAN’ inside the squared circle; an all-time great racking up titles, records & dollars, by the bucket-load.

A middleweight, super-middleweight, light-heavyweight & heavyweight champion who had dropped back down to become the first-man to win a belt at 175Ibs, whilst reigning at heavy.

Tarver always disputed the decision loss to Jones but had the Pensacola man walked away following the victory, he may have gone down as the greatest to ever do it.

But after talks with Mike Tyson broke down, ‘Captain Hook’ went back in with ‘The Magic Man’ and one devastating left from the challenger would ensure the champion was never the same.

🥊Floyd Mayweather vs Oscar De La Hoya | FULL FIGHT | WBC Super-Welterweight Boxing | 5/5/2007

Published

on

Oscar De La Hoya 8–4 (30 KO) vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr. 37–0 (24 KO), billed as The World Awaits, was a professional boxing match contested on May 5, 2007, for the WBC super welterweight championship.
At the time, the bout was the most lucrative boxing match ever, with over $130 million in generated revenue.

The fight took place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada under the promotion of Golden Boy Promotions. It was contested at 154 pounds, with De La Hoya defending his WBC light middleweight championship.

Tickets sold out three hours after they went on sale on Saturday, January 27, 2007. With the sellout, the bout generated over $19 million in live gate, beating the previous record of $16,860,300 set by the June 28, 1997, heavyweight championship rematch between Evander Holyfield and Mike Tyson at the Thomas & Mack Center. The fight was televised on HBO pay-per-view, with the cost to watch the fight at $55 in the U.S.

As part of the buildup for the fight, HBO produced an unprecedented four-part prelude. The series, titled De La Hoya-Mayweather 24/7, aired installments on the final three Sundays of April, with the fourth installment airing on Thursday, May 3, two days before the fight. The series focused on each fighter’s training and preparation for the bout.

A subplot to the fight concerned whether De La Hoya would be trained by Floyd Mayweather Sr., the estranged father of Mayweather Jr. Mayweather Sr. had served as De La Hoya’s trainer since 2001. Mayweather Sr. announced his willingness to train De La Hoya after initially declining to oppose his son, but demanded a $2 million fee in light of the enormous revenue to be generated by the fight. De La Hoya declined to meet Mayweather Sr.’s demands, making a counteroffer of $500,000 guaranteed plus an additional $500,000 contingent on De La Hoya winning the fight. Ultimately, the sides were unable to come to an agreement and De La Hoya hired the highly respected Freddie Roach to be his cornerman instead.

Although Mayweather Sr. reunited with his son at the start of Floyd Jr.’s training camp, he had no official role, as Floyd Jr. opted to retain his uncle, Roger Mayweather, as his trainer instead. Mayweather Sr. left the camp by the end of April, upset over not being chosen as trainer and by comments made by his son and brother during the taping of the 24/7 show.
