Epstein alleged Trump ‘spent hours’ with one of his victims, in email released by Dems | BBC News

Published

on

A committee of lawmakers in the US have released over 20,000 pages of documents from Jeffrey Epstein’s estate, including some that reference US President Donald Trump.

One is an email exchange dated April 2011 from Epstein, a convicted sex offender who died in 2019, to his associate Ghislaine Maxwell and reads “I want you to realize that that dog that hasn’t barked is trump.. [Victim] spent hours at my house with him”.

The Democrats say the emails “strike a blow against the White House’s Epstein cover-up”.

Trump has consistently denied any wrongdoing in relation to Epstein and the White House said the release of the three email exchanges creates a “fake narrative”.

The White House also says the “victim” referenced in the Epstein-Maxwell emails is “the late Virginia Giuffre, who repeatedly said President Trump was not involved in any wrongdoing whatsoever.

US President Donald Trump has said Iran will “never have a nuclear weapon” in his preliminary deal to end the war.

Speaking at the G7 summit, Trump also said that without him “there would be no Israel” and criticised Israeli leader Benjamin Netanyahu.

Fighting between Hezbollah and Israel has continued, and Iran has said Israeli troops must withdraw from Lebanon.

Netanyahu said his troops will not be withdrawing and the framework deal was reached between Iran and the US, not Israel.

Barclays cutting 5,000 jobs as it increases reliance on AI | BBC News

Published

on

Barclays is cutting its staff by around 5,000 as it is increasing reliance on artificial intelligence (AI).

The banking group expects to close what amounts to 5% of its global workforce by the end of this year.

The bank’s cost reductions are focused on its UK retail bank, but some back office functions for the UK are done in India, where a significant proportion of the job cuts are expected to fall.

Barclays said the changes were the result of an ongoing modernisation plan, with the use of AI being the “icing on the cake” of its strategy.

Naomi Klein on the end of capitalism | BBC Radical

Published

on

Naomi Klein has been writing critiques of capitalism and globalisation for more than 20 years. But now, for one of the most influential and outspoken figures on the political left, things are getting desperate. In her latest book ‘End Times Fascism’ she writes about how the global economic order is combining with other powerful forces to hasten the end of the world as we know it.

The author and social activist tells Gabriel Gatehouse about the religious fundamentalists, tech bros and white supremacists that keep her up at night, and her ideas about how to stop them – including dismantling capitalism, and why it hasn’t happened yet.
