Labour “DRUNK IN POWER” after sending Brits WARNING over wildfires

Published

By

Labour has been accused of being “drunk on power” after sending millions of Brits warning alerts on Friday evening about the threat of wildfires.

Millions of people in England and Wales received an alert on their mobile devices warning them of a “very high risk of wildfires nationally”.

It came after Prime Minister Andy Burnham described Britain as a “tinderbox” and a temporary ban on disposable barbecues was put in place.

Speaking to GB News Breakfast, Shadow Housing Secretary Sir James Cleverly criticised the decision, saying: “This is another example of a Labour government drunk on power, abusing its position. Abusing the mechanisms of the state to try and get ahead of the news cycle.”

Andy Burnham has pledged to work to “get everyone in for Christmas” as he seeks to build on his vow to end rough sleeping.

The Prime Minister is attempting to repeat efforts made during the COVID-19 pandemic, when the Everyone In scheme resulted in thousands of rough sleepers across England being taken in off the streets.

This week, the Government committed to “offer everyone a route off the streets this Christmas” – although there is no defined period for how long local authorities would be expected to accommodate people.
