Will Peter Mandelson be sacked as UK ambassador to the US over links to Epstein? | BBC Newscast
Politicians across the House of Commons have called for Lord Mandelson to resign as UK ambassador to the US over his connection to Jeffrey Epstein.
Lord Mandelson acknowledged that there could be more “embarrassing” exchanges to come from his correspondence with Epstein who he described as his “best pal” in a letter for his 50th birthday.
He likened his association with Epstein to “an albatross around my neck”, adding he felt “profoundly upset that I was taken in” by a “charismatic criminal liar”.

Man City Found Guilty: Club may be expelled from Premier League for financial cheating | BBC News
Manchester City may be expelled from the Premier League after being found guilty of the vast majority of of 115 breaches of the financial rules it had been accused of.
Sanctions on the club, which are yet to be announced, may include exclusion from the UK’s top football league, a points deduction or a huge fine.
The news of the guilty verdict was broken by the Athletic, which reported that 114 of the 115 charges have been upheld. The BBC has been told that the club is planning to appeal.
The news came 1,327 days after City were charged by the Premier League in February 2023 following a four-year investigation, and 22 months since a hearing by an independent commission concluded.
The seismic decisions leaves a huge number of questions about what will happen next, what City’s punishment might be and how the current season will be affected.
One possibility is that rival Premier League sides may take legal action for compensation, claiming they have been impacted by City’s actions. A number of clubs have already sought legal advice over whether they would have a case for financial compensation.
There is precedent for such compensation claims. In June 2026, Everton were told they must pay Burnley £35m after they broke profit and sustainability regulations.
