Hamas says Israel Gaza Ceasefire Talks| Israel Gaza Conflict #news #englishnews #usnews #usa #gaza

Published

on

Hamas has warned that Israel’s latest military operations in Gaza and non-negotiable positions of Israel’s prime minister could set ceasefire and hostage release talks “back to square one”.
Hopes of a breakthrough rose last week when the Palestinian armed group dropped a demand for Israel to accept a permanent ceasefire as a precondition.
But Hamas said Benjamin Netanyahu had created new “obstacles” ahead of the resumption of indirect talks in Qatar on Wednesday by setting out principles for any deal that included allowing Israel to resume the fighting.
There was no immediate Israeli response, while the US and a senior Palestinian official downplayed the significance of the public comments by both sides.#worldupdates

Baby deaths scandal: 300 new cases investigated at two hospitals – BBC News

Published

on

There are new, disturbing revelations concerning two troubled hospitals at the centre of a baby deaths scandal, potentially dating back several decades.

An independent review into claims that children and mothers died, or were permanently harmed by care failures, at Telford’s Princess Royal and the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, is now looking at 300 more cases.

It takes the total number of cases under investigation to 1,500 over a 40 year period.

It follows concerns raised again by the Care Quality Commission about wider hospital services at the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust.

Clive Myrie presents a BBC News at Ten exclusive report from Social Affairs Correspondent Michael Buchanan.

Why is the UK telling people to stockpile? | BBC News

Published

on

Major retailers have reported a big rise in sales of tinned food, bottled water, wind up radios and batteries, after the government launched its ‘be ready’ campaign.

The government is urging people to stock up on enough for three days in case of a crisis – like extreme weather or a cyber-attack.

The security minister’s defended the campaign, arguing that our European neighbours seem better prepared.

Luxury cruise passengers stranded after fuel costs surge | BBC News

Published

on

Passengers of the Villa Vie Odyssey boarded the luxury cruise ship expecting a voyage around the world spanning over three years, visiting over 150 countries and making memories to last a lifetime.

On Tuesday, however, just 750 days into its circumnavigation, the boat suspended operations due to extraordinarily high fuel costs, leaving passengers stranded in Cambodia.

The US-based operator has said it is working with passengers on disembarkation plans and “temporary living arrangements”.

Global fuel prices have soared since the Iran war started earlier this year. The ship’s operator said the monthly fuel cost per cabin in parts of Asia has risen to as much as $8,000 (£6,000) from $1,800.

It is unclear how many residents were on board but the nearly 200m (656ft) vessel can carry up to 650 passengers.

Passengers Lanette Canen and Johan Bodin told the BBC they were informed by staff at 6am on Tuesday that they had to leave by 2pm on the same day.

“There have been a lot of hugs and tears as residents support one another and process what has happened” the couple said.
