US cuts off some weapons deliveries to Ukraine to ‘put America’s interests first’ | BBC News

Published

on

Ukraine has warned that an interruption of US weapons shipments might encourage Russia to continue the war.

The White House said that it had cut off some weapons deliveries to Ukraine – who have been at war with Russia for four years.

White House spokesperson Anna Kelly said the decision was taken “to put America’s interests first” following a Department of Defence review of US “military support and assistance to other countries”.

Russia welcomed news of the reduction in weapons shipments, with the Kremlin saying reducing the flow of weapons to Kyiv will help end the conflict faster.

How worried should we be about the AI that went rogue and launched a cyber-attack? | BBC News

Published

OpenAI has revealed some of its most advanced AI models went rogue and hacked a start-up after it lost control of them during a security test.

The ChatGPT-maker said its agent – an AI system which can operate alone after human instruction – was being tested in a controlled environment but, after finding weaknesses, was able to escape the test limits.

They targeted Hugging Face, one of the world’s largest hubs for sharing AI models, gaining access to some internal company systems.

US hits dozens of countries with new wave of tariffs | BBC News

Published

on

The US has imposed new tariffs on 60 trading partners in the latest escalation in the trade war reignited by President Donald Trump when he returned to office last year.

Those targeted, including the UK, China and the European Union, will face a tariff of 10% to 12.5% on all goods, accounting for almost all American imports.

The tariffs, which replace an identical levy which expires on Friday, are based on claims key economic partners have failed to properly tackle forced labour.

But US trade expert Caroline Freund said the move is “not about forced labour” but that Trump is simply “looking for a legal reason to put the tariffs in”.
