President Zelensky has appealed for more ballistic missile interceptors after twenty one people were killed in a night in Kyiv. Moscow fired 115 drones and 24 ballistic missiles. Most of the drones were shot down, but Kyiv’s depleted air defences did not intercept any of the missiles.

In Moscow oil refineries and factories have been targeted by Ukrainian drones. An estimated £750m worth of goods were destroyed after Russia’s biggest online retailer, Wildberries, was hit last month. So has the war entered a new phase?

A state of emergency has been declared after thousands of people were forced to flee their homes as a fast-moving wildfire in a remote part of western Canada spread rapidly, doubling in size since it was first detected on Friday.

The Bald Range wildfires triggered the largest evacuation event this summer and more than 20,000 people across British Columbia have evacuated their homes, officials say.

It was not yet clear how many structures had been destroyed in the blaze.

Today, are some of the world’s leading AI companies doing enough to stop their models from going rogue?

Facebook owner Meta has become the latest tech firm to say one of its AI models hacked another company. Similar breaches by OpenAI and Anthropic models have raised cyber-security concerns and prompted calls for tougher safeguards and more rigorous testing. And the majority of England’s rivers and lakes have failed a new environmental review. Officials in Russia and Ukraine have both reported deaths and injuries following attacks.

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky said the country’s military had hit two Russian oil refineries in “long-range” attacks.

Russia’s Yaroslav region has counted four injured in an attack on the Slavneft-Yanos oil refinery after huge clouds of smoke were seen over the city.

Russia’s regional governor in Yaroslavl called it the “largest ever attack by enemy drones”, saying 93 drones had been destroyed, but oil storage tanks had been hit by falling debris.

Across Russia, the military said it had intercepted and destroyed 605 Ukrainian drones in multiple regions, including Yaroslavl.

In Ukraine, officials said three people had been killed in a Russian drone attack on a residential area.
