Trump warns ‘people in Gaza are starving’ as international condemnation of Israel grows | BBC News

Published

President Trump said for the first time today that “a lot of people in Gaza are starving” and vowed that the US would take care of the situation.  He was speaking after finishing a tour of the Middle East, during which he chose not to visit Israel.

Israeli air strikes have killed nearly 100 people in northern Gaza in a single day, according to Hamas-run civil defence teams. It comes after more than 120 Palestinians were killed yesterday in the south of the territory.

The UN is ’warning that half a million people face famine and its human rights chief says that Israel’s actions are tantamount to ethnic cleansing.

Palestinians in Beit Lahia and Jabalia described a large-scale assault on the ground and from the air and sea in the early hours of the morning. The Israeli military said its troops were dismantling what it called terrorist infrastructure.

It’s not clear whether the operation marks the start of the major new offensive promised by Israel’s prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Israel doesn’t allow independent access to Gaza for international journalists, including the BBC.

Why Mike Flanagan changed Stephen King’s Carrie | BBC News

Published

Adaptations, remakes and reboots are all the rage right now, and there’s often one question that crops up – why?

Carrie, Prime Video’s new TV series based on Stephen King’s debut novel, has been no exception.

It’s not the first time the tale of high school bullies and supernatural powers has been adapted for the screen.

Director Brian de Palma’s 1976 movie version is a horror classic, with some of its most famous scenes and imagery widely considered iconic within the genre.

But the cast and creator of the latest version, which drags Carrie’s story forward 50 years into a world of social media, have been telling BBC Newsbeat’s Eleanor Doyle why they believe it’s still relevant in 2026.

OpenAI scraps rollout of new ChatGPT model over safety concerns | BBC News

Published

OpenAI has announced it will not release its latest AI model due to safety concerns.

Its GPT-6.1 Astra system, which performs tasks like browsing the web and using apps by itself, “didn’t quite meet the bar” of the company’s standards, according to Saachi Jain, head of safety systems at OpenAI.

It comes as breaches by major AI firms’ models intensify the debate about risks posed by the tech – with Anthropic underlining its concerns AI might threaten humanity as it prepares to go public.
