Labour MP Steve Reed breaks ranks as he faces a grilling from Camilla Tominey over Andy Burnham, Labour’s housing targets and the growing speculation about tensions within the party. Reed is challenged over Labour’s pledge to build 1.5 million homes by 2029, with Tominey asking whether the government can realistically deliver on its ambitious target. “The bottom line is Labour will not reach that housing target, you know that deep down,” she says, as the pair revisit the political row from this time last year.

Tominey also questions Reed about the reported divide between the “Starmerites” and the “Burnhamites” and whether there is growing infighting within Labour. The former Housing Secretary is pressed on whether he is a Starmer loyalist or a Labour loyalist, and whether he would support Andy Burnham as Prime Minister. The discussion also turns to the economy, with Tominey challenging Reed over government spending and borrowing, as well as the handling of the welfare bill and whether Labour has done enough to reduce costs.
