Israel conducting ‘extensive strikes’ on the Gaza Strip | BBC News
The Israeli military says it is carrying out “extensive strikes” in the Gaza Strip.
A spokesperson for Gaza’s Hamas-run Civil Defence agency – the strip’s main emergency response service – told the BBC that at least 34 Palestinians have been killed and 70 others injured.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said it was targeting what it called “terror targets” belonging to Hamas.
This is the largest wave of airstrikes in Gaza since the ceasefire began on 19 January. Talks to extend the Gaza ceasefire have failed to reach an agreement.

New data shows El Niño is strongest ever with major shift in global weather patterns | BBC News
The developing El Niño climate event is now the strongest on record, according to scientists monitoring Pacific Ocean temperatures.
The powerful natural climate phenomenon pushes up global temperatures and can increase the risks of extreme weather.
Added to the effects of human-induced climate change, the Met Office is warning that it is “very likely” to mean 2027 is the hottest year on record globally.
There is growing evidence that weather patterns around the world are already being affected, with below-average monsoon rains in India and suppressed hurricane activity in the Atlantic Ocean.
There is no clear evidence that climate change is making El Niño events more likely, but its weather impacts are likely to be more extreme in a warming world.

Ukraine has fired its largest drone attack on the Moscow region, the mayor has said, hitting the city’s main oil refinery and a residential building.
Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said 450 drones heading for the capital had been shot down in what he called “the most massive” attack. The region’s governor said at least two people were killed and 20 injured.
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed Kyiv had hit a “key” Russian oil facility and a logistics site in the region with drones and missiles, representing “billions of dollars that sustain the war machine”.
