FURY: Green council votes to RESIST immigration raids and set up ‘SANCTUARY CORRIDOR’ for migrants
A London council has passed a motion to refuse all cooperation with immigration raids – styling itself as an American-style sanctuary city.
In a UK first, the Green council said it would be reviewing all the ways in which Lewisham cooperates with the Home Office on immigration enforcement, and stop them where legally possible. This would include data sharing and any resources under the control of the council.
The move came after Green councillors took umbrage with Border Force after it stepped up operations in Lewisham. A Freedom of Information request made by local activists showed there had been 177 raids in the area last year.
As part of the motion, Lewisham council has committed to working with other councils to develop a quote ‘anti-raids sanctuary corridor working closely with migrant and law centres, anti-raids networks and faith and community groups’.

Reform UK’s Richard Tice PRAISES Labour over British Steel: “They’ve listened to me!”
Richard Tice has welcomed the Government for bringing British Steel under public ownership, saying: “Credit where credit’s due. They’ve listened to me.”
The loss-making firm was taken into Government control amid panic last April after it emerged that Jingye, its Chinese owner since 2020, had drawn up plans to close its two blast furnaces at Scunthorpe.
The Department for Business and Trade had yesterday said it was “strongly minded” to use the new powers in the case of British Steel.
And this morning, it was nationalised under the Steel Act.
Speaking to GB News Breakfast, Reform UK’s Business spokesman called it the “right decision,” saying: “I’ve been saying for seven years that we need to take British Steel back into public ownership and then invest in it, invest in rebuilding the blast furnaces so they’re good for the next 50 years.”

Market PANIC: Burnham sends Britain’s debt costs SOARING as Labour ‘DRAGS UK into fiscal crisis’
Britain’s borrowing costs have soared since Keir Starmer resigned and it became clear Andy Burnham would replace him. In July, 10 year gilt yields jumped from 4.7% to more than 5% on Andy Burnham’s arrival to Number 10, adding billions of pounds to the debt interest bill.
Jutin Urquhart Stewart warns Britain must deregulate its economy and lower taxes in order to get economic growth going, though Burnham seems intent on doing the opposite.
Urquhart Stewart warns Britain is ‘hurtling’ into a fiscal crisis and the economic outlook is ‘dark’.
